The individuals arrested on Tuesday have been identified as Shoaib, Sujauddin, Rahat, Mohd Azam, Azharuddin, Javed, and Mustafa. Police teams have been deployed to track down others implicated in the violence.
Eleven FIRs have been filed in connection with the incident so far. The violence broke out on November 24 during a survey of the Shahi Jama Masjid, which had come under scrutiny following a court directive regarding a petition alleging that a Harihar temple once stood at the site.
Tensions had been high since November 19, when the initial survey took place. Clashes erupted during the second survey on November 24, involving stone-pelting in Pakka Baag Hindu Pura Kheda, the torching of a police motorcycle, and the theft of a police pistol’s magazine and cartridges.
