Colossal Biosciences, a US-based company working on ‘Jurassic Park’ style projects to revive extinct animals like the woolly mammoths, dodo and thylacine, has stated that it has secured another round of funding, of around $200 million from investing giant TWG Global.
The company’s investors include ventures that own large production houses in Hollywood and gaming companies, including Legendary Entertainment, the company that produced Hollywood movies like Inception, The Dark Knight, and 300.
TWG Global has stated that Colossal Biosciences is using technologies that intersect advanced research in genetic engineering, and AI to achieve both species preservation and de-extinction. It added that in a short period of time, Colossal has amassed a team that has been driving significant innovation in the respective fields.
Colossal is also trying to use its tech to prevent the extinction of some species that are already on the verge of extinction, such as the Northern White Rhinoceros.
The company has been valued at $10.2 billion after the recent rounds of funding. Colossal’s private investors include some famous names from Hollywood and top executives of tech firms.
After the recent investments and valuation, Colossal Biosciences has reportedly emerged as the first ‘Decacorn’ of Texas.
