Uttam Nagar murder: Police book mob that lynched Tarun under SC/ST Act, MCD bulldozes property of one killer

The murder of 26-year-old Tarun Butolia in southwest Delhi’s Uttam Nagar during Holi celebrations has taken a new turn after the police added provisions of the SC/ST Act to the murder case. The incident has sparked tension in the area, while the victim’s family has demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe.

Delhi Police claimed that they have arrested six people so far in connection with the murder. The arrested individuals have been identified as Umardeen(49), Jummadeen (36), Mustaque (46), Kamruddin (36), Muzzafar (25) and Tahir (18).

According to the Delhi police, the arrested individuals include Umardeen, Kamruddin and Jummadeen, who are brothers, while the other arrested individuals are their relatives who live close to each other in Uttam Nagar. They work as wall painters. The police claimed that the victim’s family had given them a list of around 15-20 people suspected of being involved in the murder.

Tarun’s father, Memraj, has demanded a CBI investigation into the incident and said that the family was not being informed about the progress of the case. Speaking to the media, he said police had told them that five or six people were arrested, but the family was not shown who had been taken into custody.

The clash reportedly started during Holi when a child accidentally dropped a water balloon on a Muslim woman. Tarun’s elder brother, Arun Kumar, said that the woman had made an issue over the incident, and soon the fight escalated to involve many people. He said that around 20 to 25 people were involved in the attack.

There was tension in the area on Saturday, 8th March as well. Around 200 police personnel were deployed, along with two additional companies of the Rapid Action Force (RAF).

Meanwhile, bulldozer actions were carried out by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi against a property owned by an accused individual named Nizamuddin. The police stated that seven individuals, including a minor, were apprehended in the case, and investigations are still underway.
