The Yogi government has started a new initiative to encourage healthy habits among school students across Uttar Pradesh. Under the programme, the Government of India’s ‘My Health World’ teaching-learning material will be introduced in government schools, Kasturba Gandhi Girls’ Schools, and recognised schools to help children understand the importance of health, nutrition and a healthy lifestyle from an early age.
The programme aims to make students more aware of balanced food, personal hygiene, mental well-being, physical activity and responsible lifestyle choices. The state government believes that schools are the best place to develop good habits that stay with children throughout their lives.
Health education should become part of everyday school activities
According to the plan, both Hindi and English versions of the ‘My Health World‘ book, along with other teaching-learning materials, will be provided to schools across the state. Instead of being limited to classroom lessons, the study material will also be used during morning assemblies, children’s assemblies, parent-teacher meetings, school health programmes and other educational activities.
The initiative has been designed to make health education a regular part of students’ daily learning experience rather than treating it as a separate subject.
Teachers to receive training
To ensure that the programme is implemented properly, teachers will be given orientation and training on how to use the new study material effectively in classrooms.
For the smooth rollout of the initiative, Director General of School Education and State Project Director Monica Rani has issued detailed guidelines to DIET principals, Divisional Assistant Directors of Basic Education, District Basic Education Officers, Block Education Officers and other officials responsible for implementing the programme.
Focus on healthy food and lifestyle
The new learning material will teach students about the importance of eating a balanced and nutritious diet, avoiding junk food, maintaining cleanliness and personal hygiene, and taking care of their mental health. It also encourages students to make healthy choices in their everyday lives.
The programme combines health education, nutrition awareness and positive behaviour with school education so that children can develop healthy habits while supporting their overall growth.
Yoga and sports get special attention
The Yogi government has also decided to place special focus on regular yoga, sports and physical activities as part of students’ daily routine. Through this initiative, the state aims to improve children’s physical and mental well-being while creating greater awareness about healthy living from the school level.
