Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami announced on Sunday (21st December) that his government is now making it a mandatory for all schools in the state to recite verses from the Bhagavad Gita every day. The idea is to help kids connect with Indian culture, pick up strong moral values, and get a better grip on life’s philosophy, all for their all-around growth.
In a post on X, CM Dhami said that “We’ve made Gita verse recitation compulsory in state schools. This step is helping students develop fully by linking them to our culture, ethics, and way of thinking about life.”

Earlier, Dhami praised events like Mahakauthig for keeping Uttarakhand’s traditions alive. He spoke at a seven-day cultural fest by the Parvatiya Cultural Society at Noida Stadium in Gautam Buddh Nagar. He said it’s awesome how folks from Uttarakhand, even those living far from the hills, keep their folk culture going strong.
Dhami called these migrant Uttarakhandis the state’s real “brand ambassadors” for uniting people and protecting their roots. These steps show how the government is pushing to blend education, history, and community pride for a stronger future.
