A case of molestation of a Hindu minor girl has come to light from the Jakhnidhar market of Tehri Garhwal district, Uttarakhand. Police have arrested a Muslim meat vendor, Raees Ahmed, acting on a complaint filed by the girl’s mother.
The incident took place on Sunday evening, 5th June. Police said Raees lured the minor girl and took her inside the meat shop. When she did not come out for a long time, people in the market became suspicious and gathered outside. As locals approached the shop, they opened the door, and the girl was rescued by them. Soon after, a crowd assembled in the market and demanded strict action against the accused.
The incident triggered protests by members of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal. The organisations claimed the minor girl had been lured into the shop and called for a fair investigation, a proper medical examination, and strict punishment. They also warned that such incidents would not be tolerated in the area.
Police said the accused had been running a meat shop in Jakhnidhar market for the past two years. A case under the POCSO Act has been registered against the accused. Officials said further legal action will depend on the evidence collected during the investigation.
