West Bengal: STF arrests Nabiul Haque, Sahibar Ali and others in major drug bust, seizes over 2.6 kg of morphine

In a significant achievement against the narcotics mafia in West Bengal, a Special Task Force (STF) recently intercepted a vehicle on NH-12 near Madhughat, Kaliachak, Malda district. The action led to the seizure of 2.688 kg of contraband Morphine. Four drug peddlers were also arrested by the STF, identified as Nabiul Haque, Sahibar Ali, Hasibur SK, and Md Masud Rahaman.

West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari shared the information on X on Sunday (November 1, 2026), praising the officials and personnel who carried out the operation. “In a major breakthrough in our ongoing crackdown against narcotics syndicates, a vigilant team from the Special Task Force (STF), @WBPolice, intercepted a vehicle on NH-12 near Madhughat, Kaliachak, Malda district, recovering approximately 2.688 kg of contraband Morphine and arresting four key operatives of an inter-state drug network,” Adhikari wrote.

The Chief Minister further said that the state has launched an action to dismantle the entire narcotics racket. “I appreciate the Officers and Personnel of West Bengal Police and the STF for their swift, coordinated action and unwavering dedication to duty,” he wrote, praising the officials.

CM Adhikari reiterated his government’s resolve to eradicate drug smugglers and syndicates in the state. He said his government remains committed to its zero-tolerance policy on narcotics smuggling and to safeguarding the future of the Youth under the Nash Mukti Abhiyan.

Last year a narcotics smuggling ring was busted by police in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, having links in West Bengal. The operatives in the ring used to procure marijuana from West Bengal at low prices and sell it in the national capital region at higher prices. The racketeers used to use the train route for transporting marijuana.

The action against drug peddlers and smuggling networks has been intensified under the Modi government’s vision of Nasha Mukt Bharat. The Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan was launched on August 15, 2020, to achieve a drug-free India. It was initially launched in 272 districts identified as the most vulnerable to drug use based on national surveys and Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) data.

In August this year, PM Modi launched ‘Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan’ to expand a pilot project that began in Kashi last year into a full-fledged national movement. The Abhiyan is a sustained 100-week nationwide Jan Bhagidari campaign against substance abuse.
