Youth Congress defends shirtless protest at Bharat Mandapam disrupting AI Impact Summit, claims it is their right

On February 20, Indian Youth Congress (IYC) workers staged entered inside the Bharat Mandapam during the India AI Impact Summit and started a shirtless protest. The IYC workers raised loud slogans of “PM is compromised” and started removing their shirts.

The incident has sparked a massive outrage on social media, with many commenting that the party should not have disrupted a global event for petty political noise.

Delhi Police has detained several demonstrators shortly after the disruption on the summit’s penultimate day.

The video of the IYC workers disrupting the AI Impact Summit was shared from the IYC official handle. Speaking to the media, IYC National President Uday Bhanu Chib defended the incident.

“This anger isn’t just from our Youth Congress members. It’s from every young person who is unemployed today, and every single one of them knows that our Prime Minister is compromised. This trade deal with the US, we all know, will harm our farmers and people. Only America will benefit. It’s our duty to raise their (youth) voice. Our country has democracy. We can hold peaceful protests anywhere.”

As per reports, the Summit is continuing despite the brief disruption, with the event of the Pax Silica Declaration on secure supply chains.

The ruling BJP has called the IYC protest a matter of ‘national shame’, and an effort to embarass India at the global stage. “Under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi, Congress workers went topless and created a ruckus at the venue, an act clearly designed to embarrass India on the world stage”.

“When the nation is striving to position itself as a global technology powerhouse, such conduct only serves the interests of those who wish to see India falter. Political opposition is a democratic right, but sabotaging India’s global image is not. India deserves better”, BJP posted.
