In an official communication published on the WTO website on 9th July, India has raised several legal and procedural questions regarding the Agreement on Electronic Commerce (ECA).
The BRICS nations have voiced "serious concerns" about the unilateral imposition of tariffs and non-tariff measures, in apparent reference to the US, which they deemed inconsistent with World Trade Organisation (WTO) rules.
India and South Africa had brought a proposal at the WTO to lift IP restrictions for Covid vaccines and medicines back in October 2020. The proposal has been repeatedly blocked by the US, UK and EU.
"At present, the Agreement has clauses on domestic subsidies and special safeguards which are in favour of farmers of developed countries," the farmers added.
