A man from Uttar Pradesh was taken into custody after he harassed his sister-in-law in Ahmedabad regularly, reported India Today. He has been identified as 46-year-old Ehraaj Hussain Sheikh. He asserted that the “voices which belong to Allah” influenced him to take such actions after he was apprehended.
Ehraaj spent the last three years residing in the Jamalpur neighbourhood of Ahmedabad. According to police, he started stalking his aunt’s daughter-in-law in 2024 after developing a one-sided fixation towards her. They disclosed that he publicly confessed his love for the woman to her husband after concerns were voiced regarding his actions.
The accused declared that he followed her and would continue his actions. He even issued death threats to any person who dared to stop him. The Dani Limda police station filed a formal complaint against him in 2024, and the case is presently on trial.
He was freed on bail, but that did not dissuade him from his objectionable behaviour, and he kept pursuing her. He visited his aunt’s home to meet the woman on 23rd December. He grabbed her hand and professed his love. Afterwards, he told her to accompany him when his aunt urged him to leave. He promised to keep her with him and instructed her to drop the case by claiming that the charges were false, before the judge.
According to the authorities, the aunt interfered and set her free when Ehraaj attempted to pull the woman towards him and threatened her spouse with murder. She then reported the harassment to the Gaekwad Haveli police station once more. However, Ehraaj emphasised that he heard voices telling him to act like that in a video that went viral while he was in police custody.
“I hear voices telling me, ‘Ehraaj, where are you roaming around? The control of this matter is in your hands.’ I’m being told to go and drag her here. This is the voice of Allah who tells me, ‘Ehraaj, go there again, go and drag her’,” he mentioned. The police informed that he reiterated the same statement when questioned, insisting that Allah had instructed him to behave in this way. According to a senior official, he has been charged with stalking the woman, intimidating her and pushing her into making a false testimony in court.
The Assistant Commissioner of Police unveiled, “Ehraaj was in one-sided love with the woman. A year ago, he stalked her and molested her, for which an FIR (First Information Report) was registered, and the trial is ongoing. Even after that, he kept pressuring the woman to change her statement and leave her husband and children to live with him. After he again followed and harassed her, considering the seriousness of the matter, the police arrested him. Necessary legal action is being taken.”
