India’s coffee exports smashed a huge milestone in 2025, crossing $2 billion for the first time ever, up a solid 22% from the year before. This jump came from sky-high global prices and massive orders from Russia.
According to the Coffee Board’s latest data based on shipping permits, the total value hit $2.058 billion, compared to $1.679 billion last year. Even though the overall amount shipped dropped about 4.5% to 3.48 lakh tonnes from 4.02 lakh tonnes, sales of Arabica beans and instant coffee actually went up.
Value boom despite lower volumes
In rupees, exports soared 27% to ₹17,911 crore from ₹14,046 crore. Farmers and exporters got a sweet deal with prices which saw an increase of 33% to ₹4.65 lakh against the previous year’s price of ₹3.48 lakh.
Arabica parchment exports were up 5.5% at 38,326 tonnes, while Arabica cherry exports showed a substantial jump of 47% at 11,775 tonnes. The decline in Robusta parchment exports was meagre at 1.5% at 24,612 tonnes; however, it is traded at an earlier London price. The decline in Robusta cherry exports was substantial at 14% at 1.56 lakh tonnes.
The instant coffee market gains momentum
Packets of instant coffee also performed not so badly. Domestic production increased by 12% to 46,954 tonnes. Re-exports of instant coffee produced from imported green coffee beans saw a small reduction to 1.06 lakh tonnes from 1.07 lakh tonnes. In all, re-exports of instant coffee increased by 2.68% to 1.53 lakh tonnes from 1.49 lakh tonnes.
Italy remained the biggest customer, taking 60,688 tonnes, though down from 77,890 tonnes last year. Russia jumped to second place with a 20% rise to 31,505 tonnes, pushing Germany to third, where it dropped 32% to 28,840 tonnes. UAE grabbed 21,172 tonnes and Belgium 19,870 tonnes. India ranks seventh in coffee production worldwide, fifth in exports, and sends most of it to the European Union.
