On Friday (9th January), a Chief Judicial Magistrate court in Chhattisgarh rejected the bail petition of Congress MLA Baleshwar Sahu in a cheating and forgery case and sent him to judicial custody till 22nd January.
According to reports, Sahu cheated the complainant, Raj Kumar Sharma, to the tune of ₹42.78 lakhs between 2015 and 2020 while serving as the manager of a cooperative society.
The victim was advised by Sahu to take a loan on his Kisan Credit Card (KCC) against his 50 acres of land. Thereafter, the Congress MLA took blank cheques from the victim and transferred ₹24 lakh into his own account.
Sahu also forged the victim’s signature and embezzled ₹42,78,000 along with the accomplice Gautam Rathore. A case was registered against the accused on 3rd October 2025.
In a statement, SP Vijay Pandey said, “Upon investigation, the allegations were found to be true. After accepting the chargesheet, the honourable magistrate court issued a jail warrant. Subsequently, the accused (Sahu) filed an application for regular bail in the same court, which was rejected.”
“We took him for a medical test, and then he was sent to judicial custody,” he added. In the meantime, the Congress ecosystem has cried foul over the matter.
Congress leader Sushil Anand Shukla alleged, “The BJP has hatched a conspiracy and booked our MLA. We have full faith in the judiciary and we believe he will be acquitted of all charges.”
