The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), under the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, has achieved a remarkable feat by setting four Guinness World Records in bituminous concrete laying on the under-construction Bengaluru–Kadapa–Vijayawada Economic Corridor (NH-544G). These records were established in collaboration with the concessionaire M/s Rajpath Infracon Private Limited.
The extraordinary achievements took place in two phases near Puttaparthi in Andhra Pradesh, covering Package-2 and Package-3 of the corridor. On January 6, 2026, NHAI set two records by successfully laying the longest continuous stretch of Bituminous Concrete covering 28.89 lane km (equivalent to a 3-lane wide section of 9.63 km) and placing the highest quantity of 10,655 metric tons of Bituminous Concrete in a single 24-hour period. Both records were established for the first time globally under the six-lane National Highway project on the Bengaluru–Kadapa–Vijayawada Economic Corridor.
Then, on January 11, 2026, the team surpassed global benchmarks once again by continuously laying 57,500 metric tons of Bituminous Concrete and paving a 3-lane wide section spanning 52 km, equivalent to a 156 km long land, comfortably exceeding the previous world record of 84.4 lane km.
The exceptional pace was made possible through the deployment of advanced equipment by NHAI and Rajpath Infracon, including 70 tippers, five hot mix plants, one paver, and 17 rollers. Strict quality and safety standards were maintained throughout the operations, with technical monitoring and support provided by premier institutions such as IIT Bombay, along with Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs).
The Bengaluru–Kadapa–Vijayawada Economic Corridor is a 343 km long, access-controlled six-lane highway project that promises safe, high-speed, and scenic connectivity. The corridor features 17 interchanges, 10 wayside amenities, a 5.3 km long tunnel, and passes through approximately 21 km of forest areas.

Once completed, it will significantly enhance regional connectivity by linking Bengaluru directly with Vijayawada, while greatly improving access between the Rayalaseema region, coastal and northern parts of Andhra Pradesh, and the Koparthy Industrial Node.
The new alignment will reduce the existing travel distance from 635 km to 535 km, saving approximately 100 km, and will cut the journey time from around 12 hours to about 8 hours.
“These Guinness World Records stand as a testament to NHAI’s commitment to deliver world-class National Highway infrastructure, aligned with the vision of the Government of India to build safe, efficient, and globally benchmarked corridors that support economic growth and regional development across the country,” said Ministry of Road Transport & Highways in a press release.
