Kanpur: Sohaib murders Hindu wife within 3 months of ‘love marriage’, victim’s mother alleges dowry harassment

A Hindu woman was murdered by her Muslim husband, Sohaib, on Monday (2nd February), just three months after their love marriage in Kanpur city of Uttar Pradesh.

The victim, Deepika Saini, was living in a rented house with her husband, Shoaib Khan, also known as Saurabh Dubey.

Shoaib was a truck driver and usually stayed in Ahmedabad for work. He had returned home on Sunday, 1st February. The next day, on Monday afternoon, neighbours heard loud arguments and screaming from the couple’s house. The noise continued for a long time and then suddenly stopped, which raised suspicion in the area.

When neighbours gathered and reached the house, they found Deepika lying unconscious on the bed. Clear marks of a rope were visible around her neck. The neighbours immediately informed Deepika’s mother, who rushed to the spot with other relatives. When the family tried to inform the police, Shoaib fled from the house.

Police and a forensic team reached the scene and collected evidence. The body has been sent for a post-mortem. Deepika’s mother has accused Shoaib of dowry harassment and murder. Police said further action will be taken after the complaint and post-mortem report.
