On Wednesday (25th March), Muslims created a ruckus over the installation of saffron (bhagwa) flags ahead of the Ram Navami festival. The incident occurred in the Malvani area in the Malad West suburb of Mumbai.
They objected to the placement of saffron flags near a mosque. Muslims started the verbal confrontation with the Hindu devotees, which later escalated into a heated standoff.
On learning about the matter, the police reached the scene and brought the situation under control.

In visuals that have surfaced on social media, senior officers of the Mumbai police were seen physically separating Muslims from the Hindu devotees.
Local Hindus pointed out that restrictions are being imposed on decorations for Ram Navami, while religious events of other Faiths have not seen similar police interventions.

Later, a large contingent of police was deployed in the area to prevent any untoward incident. A day later on Thursday (26th March), BJP leader Nitish Rane reached the Malvani area and took part in the Ram Navami festivities.
He spoke to the Hindus present there and told them that Mumbai was not Pakistan, and no one could stop them from putting up saffron flags.
