What began as a secret rendezvous ended in a chilling crime that has shocked Visakhapatnam.
With his wife away at her parents’ home in Vizianagaram, 35-year-old Chintada Ravindra, a Navy official posted at INS Dega, invited his partner, 29-year-old Polipalli Mounika, over to his residence on Sunday. The two, who had met on a dating app in 2021 and maintained a relationship since, often met discreetly across the city, in parks, theatres, and other public spots. This time, however, the meeting took a fatal turn.
By evening, the argument escalated violently. According to police, Ravindra allegedly stabbed Mounika to death in his home. What followed was even more gruesome. He dismembered her body, packed some parts into a bag and disposed of them at an isolated location, while storing the remaining remains in his refrigerator.
In a startling twist, Ravindra himself walked into a police station and confessed. During questioning, he claimed that Mounika had taken ₹3.5 lakh from him and frequently threatened to expose their relationship to his wife, an issue that had led to repeated confrontations between the two.
When police reached the residence, they discovered dismembered body parts inside the house and the refrigerator. However, Mounika’s head was missing, leading investigators to suspect it had been disposed of separately. A special team has now been deployed to trace the missing remains, while a murder case has been registered, and further investigation is underway.
The brutality of the crime has drawn comparisons to the 2022 Shraddha Walkar murder in Delhi, where a similar pattern of killing, dismemberment, and concealment had horrified the nation.
