TMC leader and former Bidhannagar mayor Sabyasachi Dutta arrested in extortion case

On Monday (8th June), West Bengal Police arrested former Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation chairman and Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Sabyasachi Dutta in an alleged extortion case. The Bidhannagar North Police Station officials arrested the TMC leader from the Raigachi area near Rajarhat.

TMC leader Sabyasachi Dutta has been arrested in a case registered on the complaint lodged by a businessman, accusing Dutta of extorting lakhs of rupees from him in 2018. Based on the complaint, the Bidhannagar North Police Station police registered a case and arrested the TMC leader on Monday night. The police are reported to have found some documents linking him to the extortion allegations, although Dutta denies the same.

Dutta is a popular leader from Biddhannagar, also known as the Salt Lake area, a satellite town in Kolkata. Sabyasachi Dutta’s arrest came days after another prominent TMC leader and ex-minister in Mamata Banerjee’s cabinet, Sujit Bose, was arrested in Salt Lake.
