The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has issued an interim statement marking one year since the tragic crash of Air India Flight AI-171, emphasising that the final report will be released only after the completion of all investigative activities.
The statement comes on the anniversary of the accident involving a Boeing 787-8 aircraft operating from Ahmedabad to London, which occurred shortly after take-off from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad on 12 June 2025. The AAIB expressed its deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of all those who lost their lives and acknowledged the enduring pain suffered by those affected.
In its update, the AAIB noted that the investigation is being conducted in accordance with the Aircraft (Investigation of Accidents and Incidents) Rules, 2017, and the standards and recommended practices of ICAO Annex 13. A preliminary report containing factual information was already released on 12 July 2025.
Over the past year, the investigation team has carried out an extensive and rigorous examination of all relevant technical, operational, organisational, and human factors. This work has been supported by accredited representatives, technical advisers, and subject matter experts from relevant organisations. Significant progress has been achieved in analysing aircraft systems, flight recorder data, engine-related components, maintenance and operational records, and other pertinent evidence, AAIB said.
The gathered evidence and results of various examinations are now being analysed comprehensively. Additional technical evaluations and specialist examinations will continue as necessary to ensure that all findings and conclusions are based on verified evidence and sound scientific analysis.
The AAIB reiterated its commitment to a thorough, independent, objective, and evidence-based investigation. The agency said that the final report will be issued upon completion of all investigative activities and the required international review and consultation processes under ICAO Annex 13.
Highlighting the purpose of the probe, the Bureau stated that the sole aim of accident investigation is to enhance aviation safety by identifying lessons and safety recommendations, rather than apportioning blame or liability. It urged all stakeholders, including the media and the public, to refrain from speculation or premature conclusions while the investigation is ongoing.
The AAIB reaffirmed its dedication to the highest standards of professionalism, transparency, and investigative rigour, assuring that every aspect of the accident will be examined with utmost care so that the findings contribute meaningfully to the safety of civil aviation.
