Outgoing US Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard on Friday (19th June) released explosive information relating to the COVID-19 pandemic. On her last day in the office, Gabbard released declassified files and communications that revealed former top US health official Dr Anthony Fauci’s link to the controversy around the origins of the coronavirus. Gabbard said that Dr Anthony Fauci funded controversial gain-of-function research linked with the origins of the deadly virus at China’s Wuhan Institute of Virology and suppressed the truth.
In a video message posted on X, Gabbard said that Dr Fauci provided millions of US taxpayer dollars to the Wuhan Institute of Virology for gain-of-function research involving bat coronaviruses and then lied under oath. She further said that Dr Fauci worked with “politicised elements” to hide the truth about his actions and the origins of the virus. Notably, Dr Fauci was at the time heading the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) and later served as Chief Medical Adviser to former US President Joe Biden.

“The COVID-19 pandemic caused tremendous hardship and pain for millions of our fellow Americans and for countless people around the world. After years of lies, censorship, and cover-ups, the American people deserve transparency, truth, and accountability,” Gabbard said in the video message.
“The tactics used to hide the truth are straight from the deep state playbook: politicised self-serving leaders like Dr Fauci covered up their own wrongdoing and abuses of power, manipulated intelligence, lied to Congress, and undermined a duly elected President by restricting his access to vital facts needed to keep the country safe. It’s time the American people learn the real story,” she added.
Gabbard said that Fauci ran a three-step campaign to deceive and lie to the world about the pandemic. Firstly, Dr Fauci funded the dangerous research. Then, he worked behind the scenes and selected experts to push the intelligence community towards endorsing a natural animal origin for COVID-19 to hide his role in funding the research in Wuhan. And lastly, he went on to project himself as a “pandemic pundit” and “publicly pushed lies, disinformation, and censorship using every platform available now”.
OpIndia has reported years ago what US government is admitting now
Gabbard’s revelations support what OpIndia reported years ago about the role of Dr Fauci and the origins of the Wuhan virus. OpIndia had reported how the USA’s elite military research organisation DARPA (Defence Advanced Research and Projects Agency) had rejected a proposal by EcoHealth Alliance about studying bat-borne coronaviruses in Wuhan, saying that it was too dangerous. However, the project was later approved by the NIAID, which was headed by Dr Anthony Fauci. Dozens of reports around the Lab-leak theory were also dismissed and branded as fake news by Fauci’s influence.
OpIndia was also one of the only Indian media portals to report extensively on how Dr Peter Daszak had tried to influence the WHO inquiry into the origins of the Coronavirus in Wuhan by misusing his influence to insert himself as part of the team, after publishing a misleading letter in The Lancet dismissing the Lab-leak concerns raised by scientists around the world.
Notably, Google had demonetised most of OpIndia’s articles that reported on the lab leak theory or the role of gain-of-function research in Wuhan with the help of US funding.
It is notable here that Dr Anthony Fauci was issued a dubious pardon during the last few days of former US President Joe Biden’s term. Biden’s pardon, reportedly signed by autopen, absolved Fauci of any crime committed in the last 10 years.
