Ahead of NEET re-exam, politically motivated X handles spread fake news about paper leak, share morphed admit cards to create panic

Students preparing for the NEET re-exam have been facing unnecessary anxiety after several social media accounts circulated false claims about a paper leak and examination centres being allotted outside India.

One such account, Cockroach Janta Party, posted on X, “NTA plans to send a student to Karachi, Pakistan, for an examination.”

Another handle, adarshdubey45 wrote, “It’s Official now that the Re Neet Paper Is leak … Almost Everyone in India has got the paper. Hope NTA will be able to change the set of papers. Neet Students Are Going to face more Problems, only because of @NTA_Exams and @dpradhanbjp.”

However, there has been no paper leak ahead of the NEET re-test, and no student has been assigned Karachi as an examination centre. The claims being shared online are false.

The rumours spread rapidly on social media at a time when many students were already under stress due to the upcoming examination. The misleading posts created confusion and panic among candidates and their families.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has taken note of the matter and registered cybercrime complaints against the accounts involved in spreading the misinformation. Following the action, some of the handles have defended their posts by calling them “satire” and citing “free speech”.

Authorities are now examining the matter as part of efforts to curb the spread of false information related to national-level examinations and prevent unnecessary fear among students.
