Delhi police bust inter-state terror network linked to Pakistan-based ISI handler Shahzad Bhatti, 4 accused arrested with weapons and incriminating material

The Delhi Police’s Special Cell has arrested four individuals from Punjab and Delhi for plotting to carry out a terror strike in the National Capital at the direction of Pakistan-based ISI handler Shahzad Bhatti. The authorities informed of busting the inter-state terror and arms network on 2nd July (Thursday).

The accused have been identified as 23-year-old Shubdeep Singh also known as Vishal and 22-year-old Gurjant Singh alias Rishi, both residents of Tarn Taran along with 28-year-old Sajan Singh alias Honey from Amritsar and 24-year-old Gaganpreet of Fatehgarh Sahib. All are natives of Punjab. Police found five cell phones, nine live rounds and two foreign-made handguns in their possession during the action.

The operation was carried out in Delhi and Punjab based on particular intelligence. Shubdeep Singh was nabbed in Amritsar and a weapon, ammunition and phones were discovered with him. He disclosed that he was acquiring weapons and drugs through drones and was in touch with those linked to Shahzad Bhatti’s network in Pakistan. He has already been arrested in connection with a drug offence.

Gurjant Singh and Sajan Singh, two of his associates, were captured in Punjab with a Zigana pistol, four live cartridges and two mobile phones after additional investigation and interrogation. Drones were used to deliver weapons to the two cousins who were earlier booked under NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) cases.

Gaganpreet was taken into custody in the national capital on 24th April as one mobile phone and incriminating evidence was unearthed during the search. He remained in contact with his handlers through social media and was assigned to carry out a firing incident and did reconnaissance of Delhi’s police stations and sites of worship. He received instructions to record videos of police stations and other sensitive places for future planning.

The authorities stated that the apprehended men professed to utilise foreign phone numbers set up by their handlers to evade detection and continuously communicated with the handlers in Pakistan. They obtained drugs and weapons from across the border with the aid of drones.

A case has been filed in accordance with the applicable sections of the Arms Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The Special Cell is conducting further inquiry to find out other perpetrators tied to this terror syndicate.
