A 23-year-old Scheduled Tribe (ST) student has levelled allegations of rape, sexual harassment, assault and criminal intimidation by an NSUI leader. The offender has been identified as NSUI District General Secretary Subhash Yadav.
As per the complainant, the incident took place during a program organised by the National Students Union of India (NSUI), the student wing of the Indian National Congress, as part of the party’s nationwide “Chhatron ki Goonj” camping. The First Information Report is based on the complaint filed at Piplani Police Station. The victim has also been part of the NSUI since last year.
He has been booked under sections 3(2)(v) and 3(1)(w)(i) of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act alongside sections 74, 64(1), 115(2) and 351(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The complainant, who is presently living at a private hostel, has accused the NSUI office-bearer of sexual assault and making threats during the event.
According to the complaint, she had been engaged in the program along with Yadav and party workers. On 10th July, he drove her to a flat close to Ratnagiri under the guise of a meeting after attending gatherings related to the party’s outreach drive. Later that evening, the perpetrator mistreated her, slapped and grabbed her violently, injuring her face. She also charged that he forced himself on her, pushing her to have a physical relationship with him at the apartment.

The young woman wanted to go back to her dormitory the next morning, but Yadav threatened her with severe consequences if she told anybody about the incident. She also revealed that NSUI members were pressuring her to drop the complaint. They even tried to stifle the issue, coerced her into making a compromise and disregarded her grievance.
The complainant asserted that she consistently experienced trouble while trying to register her compliant and had to approach police for two days before the FIR was eventually submitted. The authorities are currently looking into the situation. Officials stated that further action will be taken following the inquiry.
Demands for the culprit’s prompt arrest, a fair and timely investigation and a probe into the involvement of those charged with influencing or impeding the complaint procedure have been raised. Legal action has also been sought against the ones responsible for coordinated effort to protect the accused.
