As floods continue to affect large parts of Assam, volunteers of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) are carrying out relief work in the badly affected Sivasagar district. Following the organisation’s long-held motto, “Service to the People is Service to God,” RSS workers have been reaching flood-hit families with essential supplies and helping those struggling due to rising water levels.
Relief reaches the worst-affected areas
Among the hardest-hit places in Sivasagar district are Betbari and Amguri, where floodwaters have disrupted normal life and forced many people to move to relief camps.
The RSS volunteers have travelled to these areas despite difficult conditions. The Swayamsevaks are distributing relief materials directly to families staying in camps as well as to people still stranded in flood-affected locations.
The volunteers are trying to ensure that families receive basic necessities at a time when many have limited access to food, clean water and medical support. Their efforts are focused on ensuring that no one is abandoned during the ongoing crisis.
Essential supplies being distributed
Relief teams are providing clean drinking water to help people avoid health problems caused by contaminated floodwater. They are also supplying dry food items and nutritious food for small children, who are among the most vulnerable during such disasters.
Apart from food and water, the volunteers are distributing essential medicines and dry clothes to help reduce the risk of infections and other illnesses that often spread during floods. These supplies are being delivered directly to affected families based on their immediate needs.
Working alongside the local administration
The RSS volunteers are also coordinating with the local administration in carrying out relief operations. Along with distributing relief materials, they are helping shift people trapped in waterlogged areas to safer places and supporting them with their basic daily needs.
