The Delhi Police has filed an FIR against abusive and insulting social media posts directed against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and security forces during the recently concluded Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protests. The official complaint highlights the online circulation of “derogatory, malicious and defamatory content” directed at a constitutional authority.
The police have asked X (formerly Twitter) to identify the accounts that uploaded the material and take down the pictures and videos from the site promptly.
In addition, the Delhi Police have sought information about the X accounts from which abusive posts against Prime Minister Modi were shared, including full name, address, phone number and email address.
This comprises the login and logout credentials with relevant time and date stamps, in addition to any other pertinent details that would help with the inquiry.
Additionally, the platform has been ordered to issue a certificate under Section 63(4) of the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA) and preserve details about such posts and videos for future examination.

On 27th July, the authorities ordered several social media accounts to remove or delete videos and posts made during the (CJP) protests at Jantar Mantar and the violence associated with the “Chalo Sansad” march that contained disparaging and offensive statements against PM Modi.
During the rallies and the unrest in the national capital, the police reported that multiple messages using abusive language against him appeared on various social media platforms.
Their social media monitoring team has reportedly been constantly scanning internet platforms for similar crude content. Notifications are being sent to the relevant social media intermediaries when offensive posts are found, instructing them to take them down.
According to police, several offensive remarks and clips using vulgar speech aimed at PM Modi have already been removed after the notices were delivered. The cyber and social media teams are monitoring online activity relating to the protests to spot any inflammatory posts and ensure that any content found to be in breach of relevant regulations is dealt with appropriately.
The Delhi Police were earlier reported to have found over 400 social media accounts connected to Pakistan that were aggressively spreading misinformation, deepfake videos and false narratives in support of the CJP protests.
