Public outrage erupted in the Surajpole Police Station area of Udaipur in Rajasthan on Saturday (September 19, 2026) in connection with an incident of vandalism in a local Hindu temple. Angry locals observed a market shutdown and called for stringent action against the accused. A person identified as Feroz alias Bhuriya has been detained by the police in connection with the incident.
The incident happened on Thursday night (September 17, 2026) in the Indra Nagar Beeda area. A video of the vandalised temple went viral on social media, showing broken idols, including a Shivling, placed inside the temple. Furious locals informed the police about the incident. The police arrived at the spot and pacified the situation. They conducted a preliminary investigation into the matter and examined the nearby CCTV cameras. From the CCTV footage, the police identified and detained the suspect, who was taken for interrogation.

Angry locals staged a protest on Saturday against the incident and demanded stringent action against the culprit. Local traders and shopkeepers kept their businesses and shops closed at the Dehligate intersection of the city on Saturday, urging the administration to fulfill their demands.
After protesting for hours, a delegation of locals met District Collector Gaurav Agrawal to present their demands. The locals demanded that the accused should be granted the strictest punishment and that his illegal properties should be bulldozed. They later withdrew the protest at the appeal of the local administration and after receiving assurance of appropriate action in the case.
Local BJP leader Sunny Pokharna condemned the incident and expressed concern over the safety of Hindu temples. He said that CCTV cameras should be installed in the temple premises to ensure that such an incident is not repeated. He also supported the locals’ demand for the restoration of the temple and bulldozer action on the illegal properties of the accused.
