CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke released after signing a peace bond for a second time, had earlier furnished a surety bond pledging to maintain peace for a year

Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke, who was detained and then arrested by the Delhi Police, was released on Saturday (October 17, 2026) on conditional bail after signing a peace bond for a second time. Dipke was apprehended at his residence yesterday (October 16, 2026), minutes before he was scheduled to participate in an authorised “Lehra Do Tiranga” rally at Connaught Place in Delhi.

Dipke was produced before a Special Executive Magistrate (SEM) after being placed under preventive arrest under Sections 126 and 170 of the BNSS. He was released after signing the peace bond for a second time. This was the second detention of the CJP founder.

Dipke, along with CJP leaders Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das, was earlier released from detention on October 11, 2026, after signing a peace bond. In the peace bond, Dipke and the two CJP leaders had undertaken not to engage in any peace-breaching activities for one year.

However, soon after the CJP leaders were released, they announced a ‘Lehra Do Tiranga’ rally at Connaught Place scheduled to be held on October 16, 2026. Following the call for the rally, the Delhi Police served a notice on Dipke, warning him against proceeding with the proposed rally, citing the imposition of prohibitory orders in the area. Besides, there was no permission from the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) for the proposed rally. Anticipating that Dipke would join the proposed rally despite the warning, the Delhi Police detained him.

CJP leaders Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das are already placed in five-day judicial custody. They were detained after they trespassed at the denotified protest site Jantar Mantar in violation of prohibitory orders on October 13, 2026. An FIR was filed against them on charges including trespass, bond violation, and disruption of a public official’s duty.

Earlier, the three CJP leaders were detained on October 10, 2026, ahead of the CJP’s proposed protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over allegations of voter-list manipulation during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The Delhi Police had denied permission for the protest, considering that the party’s June protest had turned violent. However, the CJP leaders still proceeded to join the unauthorised agitation and were therefore detained by the police at the airport.
