Azam Khan apologises for his sexist ‘poetry’ on BJP MP Rama Devi in Lok Sabha, Rama Devi calls him ‘serial offender’

The Samajwadi Party MP Azam Khan who had once again stoked controversy by repeating his aberration and making, cheap and sexist remarks against BJP MP Rama Devi, has now been forced to render his apologies for the same.

“I have been an MLA for nine times, a minister several times a Rajya Sabha member too. I was a parliamentary affairs minister too. I know legislative procedures. However, if my words hurt anyone, I hereby apologise,” Azam Khan said in Lok Sabha on Monday.

However, the BJP MP fulminated in the Parliament today, shrugged off his apologies and called him a ‘serial offender’. “Azam Khan ji’s remark has hurt both women and men in India. He will not understand this. Azam Khan is a serial offender. I have not come here to hear such comments, said Rama Devi.

Moreover, when Akhilesh Yadav, who sat right beside Azam Khan in the Lok Sabha today, stood up to defend Azam Khan, Rama Devi strongly objected to the SP president’s intervention.

Shockingly, the party President, Akhilesh Yadav had earlier too, come out to defend Azam Khan’s despicable and creepy remark, which under normal circumstances could amount to harassment and sexual abuse, by calling it ‘poetry’.

Azam Khan, stooping to a new low, had wished to stare into Rama Devi’s eyes for an eternity during the Parliament session convened on June 25. BJP MP was conducting the proceedings of the Lower House as the acting Chair then.

He had further said that he likes her so much that he wants to keep staring into her eyes and that he will keep staring at her until she feels compelled to tell him to stop staring at her.

Rama Devi was visibly upset with Khan’s remarks and ordered them to be expunged from the records. She told him that it wasn’t an appropriate way to talk to her. Other members of the Parliament, too, were outraged by Khan’s conduct and demanded that he apologize.

Later on she said Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan must be suspended from the Lok Sabha for five years as a mere apology for his objectionable remarks is not enough.

While many women MP’s across party lines got together to condemn Azam Khan’s sexist remark, NCP’s  Majeed Memon endorsed Khan’s sexist ‘poetry’ on BJP MP Rama Devi.

A day after, Azam Khan came up with his new deplorable comment NCP’s Memon had stood behind the Samajwadi Party (SP) leader stating that the comment made by Azam Khan was not disrespectful and should be seen as something said in appreciation.

Azam Khan, the habitual offender had earlier too been called out for his misogynist attack on BJP leader and veteran actor, Jaya Prada.

PM Modi releases 2018 tiger census results, tiger population sees a 33% jump as 2967 tigers reported in India

As the world celebrates the International Tiger Day on Monday, PM Modi released the findings of the All India Tiger Estimation, 2018. Tigers in the country have witnessed a 33% rise in population since 2014. Currently, the country has a total of 2,967 tigers, a significant increase from 2,226 tigers in 2014.

In 2010, at the St. Petersberg Tiger Summit it was decided that the target of doubling the tiger population would be 2022. PM Modi has announced that the country achieved the target four years early.

As per reports, Madhya Pradesh saw the highest number of tigers at 526, closely followed by Karnataka at 524 and Uttarakhand at number 3 with 442 tigers. A decline was observed at Chhattisgarh and Mizoram. The population remained constant in Odisha.

While announcing the results, the Prime Minister had also said that the country would strike a healthy balance between development and the environment. He said, “India will build more homes for our citizens and at the same time create quality habitats for animals. India will have a vibrant marine economy and healthier marine ecology. This balance is what will contribute to a strong and inclusive India,”

India’s Tiger Census is widely regarded as the World’s largest wildlife survey. Started in 2006, the census is taken after every four years. For the 2018 census, the northeastern states, which had not seen proper coverage in the past few years were scanned vigorously this time.

Eliminating the risk of human error, this time, forest officials have used an indigenously developed mobile App M-STRiPES (monitoring system for tigers-intensive protection and ecological status) developed by the Wildlife Institute of India, Dehradun. The app significantly increases the intensity, coverage and accuracy of sampling.

The 2018 tiger census was one of the biggest, widest and most organised wildlife census events in the world. It had employed over 40,000 forest guards and independent biologists, 15,000 camera traps and has scanned forest area measuring over 400,000 square metres.

Rajasthan: Rape victim attempts self immolation in police station alleging Jaipur Police inaction

A 35-year-old rape victim, a resident of Jothwara area in Jaipur attempted suicide by self-immolation at Jaipur’s Vaishali Nagar police station here on Sunday alleging inaction by the Rajasthan police in arresting the accused.

She has sustained nearly 60 per cent burn injuries and is currently battling for her life in the burns ward of the SMS Government Hospital. Her condition is said to be critical.

The woman, was demanding the arrest of one Ravindra Singh for allegedly raping her in 2015. Singh is her husband’s cousin. She reached Vaishali Nagar Police Station on Sunday along with her son and set herself on fire. Following this, she was immediately rushed to the hospital for treatment. A constable also received burn injuries in the attempt to save the woman and he is also receiving treatment.

The woman’s husband, in his interview to The Times of India, confirmed that his wife had registered an FIR under Section 376 (rape) against his 29-year-old cousin, resident of Jhunjhunu district, Rajasthan on June 5, 2019. He, however, claimed the police took no action in these two months which compelled the victim to take up such extreme steps.

Ravindra Singh had allegedly spiked the victim’s drink and raped her in the unconscious state. He also videographed the incident which he later used to blackmail the victim and her family members. Disturbed by all this, the victim lodged a complaint against Singh in Vaishali police station in Jaipur, Rajasthan.

“For the past two months, the investigation has not moved even an inch. Instead, police targeted my wife and hounded her as though she was an accused. One ACP had been forcing her to withdraw the case. Fed up, she set herself on fire on Sunday,” he was quoted by TOI as saying.

Sanjay Godara, SHO of Vaishali Nagar police station recounting the incident said, that the lady had come to the police station with her son and suddenly set herself on fire. She was immediately rushed to the hospital, confirmed the SHO.

When questioned about the current status of her FIR and the family’s allegations against the cops, a police officer said that the case is still in the process of investigation.

“We had quickly registered the FIR against the accused, who happens to be her relative. But some new facts emerged during the investigation, which needed to be corroborated,” an officer said to TOI on conditions of anonymity.

Meanwhile, the victim’s statement has been recorded by the magistrate at the SMS hospital where she is currently undergoing treatment.

This is, however, the second such case reported from Jaipur in recent times. On June 1, 2019, in a similar case, a 17-year-old girl had set herself ablaze in Makrana area of Nagaur district, Jaipur, a month after her father had filed a case of sexual harassment against a youth.

The Makrana SHO, Jitender Singh Charan, had then confirmed that the girl’s father had filed a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act a month ago against a youth. “The accused was arrested after that,” he added.

Update: The rape victim has now succumbed to her injuries.

Karnataka: BS Yediyurappa wins confidence motion through trust vote, Siddaramaiah says they accept the verdict because ‘they have less time’

BS Yediyurappa, who took oath as the 23rd chief minister of Karnataka on Friday, moved a trust vote today in a special session in the assembly, which has been called to prove his government’s majority. Speaker KR Ramesh had said that he had to rush to Hyderabad. Post that, a voice vote was called for and BS Yediyurappa wins confidence motion through voice vote.

Before the Trust Vote, when Chief Minister Yediyurappa of Karnataka made a speech in the Assembly, he said, “The administration has failed and we’ll set it right. I assure the House that we won’t indulge in vindictive politics either. I believe in forget and forgive”. He also said that he even loves the people who hate him and would like to thank Amit Shah, Prime Minister Modi and JP Nadda.

Karnataka former CM Siddaramaiah than addressed the Assembly before the trust vote and said, “We hope you (BS Yediyurappa) will be the chief minister but there is no guarantee of that. You are with the rebels, can you give a stable government? It’s impossible! I oppose this confidence motion because the reason is this government is unconstitutional and immoral”.

“Unfortunately, BS Yediyurappa has never been the chief minister with people’s mandate. Where’s the mandate? You didn’t have it in 2008, 2018 or even now. When he took an oath there were 222 MLAs in House, where did BJP have 112 MLAs for the majority? They had 105 seats. That is not a mandate,” he said.

HD Kumaraswamy, the now-ousted CM of Karnataka spoke to the assembly before the trust vote as well. He said that he has been working for the past 14 months and had no obligation to respond to questions posed by BS Yediyurappa. He said everything was recorded and it is for the people to judge him based on his work.

“All that has happened with the rebels, with power – all this will go down in history. There are people sitting on my side today, in an attempt to sway them, I request you to not bring them to the streets next”, said HD Kumaraswamy.

After BS Yediyurappa won the trust vote, Siddaramaiah accepted the outcome of the vote and said that they accept the verdict because ‘they have very less time’.

On 26th July, BS Yediyurappa had taken oath as the Chief Minister of Karnataka. The coalition government of Congress and JDS had lost the majority after 16 MLAs from both the parties had turned rebel and resigned from the assembly.

This is it the third time Yeddyurappa has become CM of the state. He had formed the first BJP government in Karnataka in 2008 but had to resign in 2011 after being indicted on corruption charges. He was acquitted by the courts later. After the Assembly elections last year, he had taken oath as the CM as BJP was the largest party although it didn’t cross the halfway mark. He was given only 24 hours to prove his majority by the Supreme Court, but he had resigned before taking the trust vote, as BJP didn’t have the numbers.

Bengal: Mamata’s government makes pregnant women ‘pose’ before lavish food platter but doesn’t let them eat it

The West Bengal government in an event in Shatipur, Nadia district in West Bengal, reportedly made 20 pregnant women pose before lavish food platters for a photo op and later shoved them away with cheap food parcels once the photos were taken.

Ironically, the event was being organised on the occasion of Supushti Divas (Nutrition Day) to promote nutritional awareness among expectant mothers.

The humiliating incident outraged the locals and an FIR was launched against the organisers. The husband (Biswajit Sandhukhan) of one of the heavily pregnant women, Moumita Sandhukhan (25), who was amongst those used as a dummy for this event, lodged a complaint against the organisers. He called the treatment “inhuman” in his complaint to the ICDS project officer in Santipur. The incident was reported by The Telegraph.

This encouraged several others to take a similar step against the organisers of the event which took place on July 26, Friday.

According to reports, the pregnant women were asked to line up and pose, one by one, before the plate containing an entire meal including rice, dal, vegetables, egg curry, and a dessert.

However, when they tried to touch the food, the women were rebuked and the organisers clarified that the meal was only ‘for demonstration’. Later they were handed out a food packet comprising of only rice and egg and asked to leave.

“Following the officials’ behaviour, I did not even accept the parcel,’ the Telegraph quoted the 25-year-old Moumita, who is presently seven-months pregnant. The report states that at least six infants, who were invited by the ICDS for an ‘Annaprashan’ event at the same venue, were treated in the same way.

The event at Vidyasagar Vidyapith in the region was held under the banner of the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) which held several such programmes on the day across the state, ironically, aimed at alleviating malnutrition among pregnant women and children.

The ICDS is a central programme implemented through state officials to provide food, nutritional services, preschool services, primary healthcare and immunisation to children under 6 and expectant mothers.

Following the complaints, ICDS officials, have ordered an investigation into the accusations.

Though few senior ICDS officials blamed the mistreatment on the local ICDS workers, as according to them, the accountability got lost in the chain of command. The state minister Shashi Panja has promised to personally look into the event and find out the reason behind the alleged mistreatment.

Army man Amanullah Khan gets killed by robbers, assorted fearmongers give it a communal twist and call it ‘lynching’

On Sunday, the PTI news feed had reported that a retired army officer was ‘thrashed to death’ in Amethi. Soon it was spread widely that the veteran was ‘lynched’ to death.

Tehseen Poonawalla, the abusive Congress supporter and Robert Vadra’s relative, claimed that retired Army officer Amanullah was the latest victim of ‘mob lynching’ in Uttar Pradesh. He declared that it was the time to bring in “MaSuKa or Manav Suraksha Kanoon” which is the only way to stop the lynching.

Sitharam Yechury, the hero of Indian unemployed comrades, while enjoying his free time after losing relevance in Indian politics, also peddled the same fake news. He targetted the BJP for ‘fuelling hatred’ and ‘protecting’ them.

Ashish Joshi, a suspended bureaucrat who threatened AAP rebel leader Kapil Mishra in his personal capacity on an official letterhead, too tried to spread fake news regarding the death of an army officer by declaring it as a ‘mob lynching’ without even knowing the basic details of the case.

Congress trolls and supporters seem to have waited so long to take their vengeance against Smriti Irani for humiliating Rahul Gandhi in Amethi in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

Journalist Prashant Kanojia who had earlier equated Dalits to animals, also shared false propaganda on social media platforms to communalise the incident.

The fake news phenomenon is not just limited to A-grade trolls and journalists. Even Islamists had an opportunity to be part of the propaganda.

However, truth is far from what the fearmongers are propagating. The 64-year-old retired Army captain Amanullah Khan was found dead in Amethi on Sunday.

He and his wife were attacked in their house by unidentified assailants during a robbery contrary to the claims that he was lynched for being a Muslim.

The police have said that Captain Amanullah and his wife 58-year old Ameena were sleeping when they noticed some people picking up the scrap outside their house at Gordian Ka Purwa village around 2 am.

“When they objected and tried to alert other villagers, the assailants tied them up and started hitting Amanullah with sticks. An injury on the head proved fatal,” said Prahlad Singh, a police officer.

Rajesh Kumar, Superintendent of Police, Amethi said that the deceased and his wife were sleeping in verandah of their newly-constructed house when some thieves tried to steal road construction material of a contractor kept in a vacant area outside the house. As Amanullah raised an alarm, thieves thrashed him to death.

However, why would facts get into the way of propagandists who have an agenda?

Kerala: Youth Congress workers ‘purify’ the spot with cow dung-mixed water after Dalit MLA does a sit-in protest

In a shocking incident, a group of Youth Congress workers from Kerala’s Thrissur district ‘purified’ a venue by sprinkling cow dung-mixed water after a Dalit MLA had staged a sit-in protest.

According to the reports, the incident occurred on Saturday when CPI’s Dalit MLA from Nattika constituency, Geetha Gopi was protesting in front of the Public Works Department (PWD) office over the poor condition of the Thriprayar to Cherpu road. She had ended her protests after she got the assurance from the Public Works Department (PWD) officials regarding the maintenance work.

After the Dalit MLA left the spot, a group of Youth Congress workers reportedly reached the protest venue and allegedly sprinkled cow dung-mixed water to ‘purify the spot’.

CPI MLA Geetha Gopi has filed a complaint with Cherpu police against caste discrimination by the Congress workers. She also said that said she will file a complaint with Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and Kerala Assembly speaker P Sreeramakrishnan. The CPI leader alleged that Cherpu Gram Panchayat president was involved in this casteist incident.

“The Congress workers should’ve resorted to many other democratic ways of protest, they sprinkled the cow dung mix water on the protest site only to harass a Dalit woman lawmaker,” Geetha Gopi said.

Kerala Cultural Minister AK Balan lashed out at the Youth Congress activists and alleged such so-called purification ceremony was usually seen in north India. “Such acts are normally seen in north India. It cannot be accepted,” he said.

Health Minister KK Shylaja also condemned the incident and said the act against the MLA showed the ‘political culture’ of the protesters. “It’s criminal and highly condemnable that the Congress workers poured cow dung-mixed waters at a place where a protest was held democratically,” Shailaja said.

Fake ‘hate crime’ in UP: Chandauli Police denies allegations that Muslim boy was set on fire for not chanting ‘Jai Shri Ram’

Chandauli Police in Uttar Pradesh has denied the allegations that the 17-year-old boy Khalid was beaten up and set on fire for refusing to chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’.

According to police, the eyewitness saw him set himself on fire. The police said that the boy gave two contradictory statements regarding the incident, both of which were found to be false. Chandauli Police found it suspicious and monitored the CCTV footage where he claimed he was. However, as per the police, he was not found in the CCTV footage. “It seemed he had been tutored,” the police said.

The police claims that in one of his statement, the boy had gone for a run at Mandrarkpur village where four people met him, beat him up, threw kerosene on him and set him on fire. SP Chandauli Police Santosh Kumar Singh said that when he talked to him at the hospital, the boy said the incident took place in Chhatel village which was in opposite direction. It was also about 1.5-2 kms from the village he had earlier claimed.

The police said that the boy said the same version of incident to the doctor as well. However, when he was referred to BHU, he informed the police officer accompanying him that he was intercepted by men on a motorbike at Dudhari Pulia. He added that he was forcefully made to sit on the motorbike and took him to ‘Bhatija mod’ which is in yet another opposite direction. He added that there he was dragged into a field and set ablaze.

The police added that it became suspicious when he gave three different versions of the story.

SP Chandauli Police also mentioned that in 2017 some Muslim youths from the Syedraja police station, the jurisdiction under which the incident falls under, got into a brawl with some youths from Mandrarkpur village which the boy mentioned in his first statement. One of the names Khalid mentioned was one Sunil. Sunil hails from Mandrarkpur who was going to file a complaint against the Muslim boys. This further raised the suspicion.

The police further stated that they checked CCTV footage of all the routes Khalid mentioned in all his statements but they could not see him in any of the locations.

The police mentions that they then went on the direction he had not mentioned in any of his claims. From the CCTV camera of one of the residents, Khalid could be spotted at around 5:15 the boy could be spotted walking in burnt condition. The eyewitness who saw the boy said that they mistook him for someone who was coming after fishing and was covered in sand.

The police team then tried to investigate further and went in the direction the boy was seen coming from. About 2 kms further at Saraiya village, there was a dargah where one of his yellow slippers was found. Khalid’s burnt clothes were also found there. The police says that when they were investigating, right across the dargah one Dinesh Maurya, who works as a hawker said that around 4:25 am, when he was distributing newspapers, it was drizzling. He said that one mad person was setting himself on fire and running around. Maurya says he went after the burning boy for a few metres before the boy started running in different direction.

Hence, it was quite clear there Khalid made up the story to perhaps to wrongly accuse someone. The police says that this appears to be a well thought out conspiracy to give it a communal and religious angle through social media. The police has said it will take strict action against anyone who tries to communalise this incident.

This is not the first time a ‘hate crime’ has turned out to be fake. Two weeks back, several media houses had reported that one Imam (Muslim cleric) called Imlaq-Ur-Rehman was assaulted by men and was made to chant Jai Shri Ram. The report also mentioned that his beard was pulled by the assailants and that the police has booked 12 people in connection with this case. OpIndia reached out to Baghpat SP who has categorically rubbished the claims and asserted that Imam Imlaq-Ur-Rehman was not made to chant Jai Shri Ram, his beard was not pulled and there was no religious undertone to this assault. He asserted that this was a case of a petty brawl between some men and the Imam.

Recently in various cities, there have been incidents of violence after Friday prayers by Muslim mobs protesting against “mob lynchings” and alleged incidents of Muslims being forced to chant “Jai Shri Ram”, though many of such claims have been found to be either false or unverified.

Ira Trivedi is being forced to lie because the gravy train that rewarded anti-Hindu hate has finally come to an end

Yoga instructor Ira Trivedi has been put in a desperate spot. After Doordarshan had announced a re-run of her Yoga programme, several of her anti-Hindu and downright hateful views on Hinduism had gone viral on social media. As a result, OpIndia had reported that the re-runs of her show had been pulled off the air by DD National vide an explicit ‘instruction’ and other DD channels had been sent an advisory against running her show.

After the brouhaha, Ira Trivedi had first tried to apologise and assert that she is deeply rooted in Hinduism. When that did not work, now, she has resorted to blatant lying.

Ira Trivedi took to Twitter to disown her own tweet where she had proclaimed that the Quran is a progressive text while modern Hinduism is regressive.

After hastily purging her Twitter account, Ira Trivedi is now attempting to convince people that the Tweet where she hailed the Quran as progressive and modern Hinduism as regressive, is a fake tweet. However, as it is said, the internet never forgets.

While Ira Trivedi uses a specific image to allege that there is no timestamp on the tweet, there are several images of here 2017 tweet where the time and date are clearly mentioned.

Further, several people pointed out to Ira Trivedi that the original tweet link also exists, though it now shows that the tweet has been deleted.

Others also pointed out that even if that tweet by Ira Trivedi was discounted, she has voiced similar anti-Hindu sentiments in other tweets and interviews of hers.

While Ira has chosen to lie and obfuscate after her views were exposed, one has to pause and wonder why Ira felt the need to do so.

Ira is the granddaughter of Congress leader and ex-union minister VC Shukla. He was the Information and Broadcasting Minister in the Indira Gandhi government and a close associate of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and her son Sanjay Gandhi. During his tenure, he was notorious for muzzling the press. He was the Congress leader who banned Kishor Kumar’s songs from AIR and Doordarshan.

It is not unknown that Ira has long held the views that she is now being called out for. The tweet of hers which she falsely claims is fake is from 2017 and several other tweets of hers which are far older. What is it that changed for her to defend herself to this extent, even if it meant lying blatantly?

It is rather evident that earlier, such malicious views that defamed the Hindu culture were not only tolerated but rather rewarded. In 2017, Ira had shot 60 episodes with Doordarshan. This was about the same time that she had propagated eating Beef and called modern Hinduism a regressive religion based on nothing but conjecture. She was then allowed to cash in on a practice that is deeply rooted in Hinduism itself – Yoga.

However, times have changed. While there are several discussions that have taken place on the merits and demerits of several practices across religions, Hindus have begun to push back against the constant and needless vilification of their religion. On the part of the establishment too, there seems to be an attitudinal change that is helping course correct.

Doordarshan categorically and unequivocally distanced themselves from Ira Trivedi after her views went viral.

The show by Ira Trivedi that was set to be aired on DD National was a re-run of previously recorded episodes and DD National was instructed to discontinue airing the re-runs of the show hosted by Ira Trivedi. Other Doordarshan channels were sent advisories to that effect.

The series that was hosted by Ira Trivedi was produced by Doordarshan Delhi as part of a series of different yoga programmes produced to highlight yoga prior to the International day of yoga in 2017. The series comprised of 60 episodes, the reruns of which have now been pulled off-air.

While earlier these views would have been rewarded, now, that gravy train that was monopolised by Left has come to an end, with Hindus not taking insults lying down and the establishment being more sensitive towards the needs of the majority and not just the minority sentiments.
