Madhya Pradesh BJP MLA Akash Vijayvargiya arrested for hitting a Municipal Corporation official with cricket bat

The Indore police have arrested senior BJP leader Kailash Vijayvargiya’s son Akash Vijayvargiya for attacking a Municipal Corporation official with a cricket bat in the city on Wednesday. Akash is a first-time legislator and represents the assembly seat of Indore-3 in Madhya Pradesh.

A First Information Report (FIR) has been registered against Akash and 10 others at MG Road police station in Indore under IPC 353, 294, 506, 147, 148, for assaulting and obstructing a public servant from performing his duties. Police have also recorded the statements of two civic body officials.

After his arrest, Akash was taken to the district court where he will be produced.

The BJP MLA was recorded thrashing a civic body official using a cricket bat who was in the Ganji Compound area to carry out an anti-encroachment drive. Akash along with his supporters chased the official. The incident took place in full public view including the presence of policemen and television crews.

According to reports, a team of municipal corporation officers led by Dhirendra Byas and Asit Khare was on their duty when they were approached by Akash and his supporters. He is said to have threatened the officials to leave within minutes or else whatever happens after would be their responsibility.

Within minutes, the argument turned into a full-blown attack after, which Akash picked a cricket bat and began chasing the officers despite policemen trying to stop him from attacking them.

On being asked about the incident later, Akash told the reporters, “I told them (the officials) to leave in 10 minutes and said we couldn’t tolerate it any longer. I am an elected representative. It is my responsibility to sort out the issues between the residents and the authorities. I was making every effort. But the civic body officials were indulging in dadagiri and weren’t listening to the people.”

He further added that civic body officers who went to the residential building during the anti-encroachment drive were not accompanied by any female officers. Alleging that officers dragged the women residents and verbally abused one of them, the BJP MLA added, “I was very angry. I don’t remember what all I did. Let’s see what happens.”

Akash also alleged that Congress leader Sajjan Singh Verma had sent some anti-social elements to capture the building and the Municipal Corporation workers were helping the Congress leader in grabbing the building.

Meanwhile, the MLA had also approached the police to register a cross-complaint against the officers on duty, who he alleged, misbehaved with the women of the residential building where the anti-encroachment drive was being carried out.

We had reported earlier how Ankur Kumar, son of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MLA Ashok Kumar had allegedly thrashed a food vendor because he did not like the food prepared by the vendor.

Highlights from PM Modi’s first Rajya Sabha address after coming back to power

After addressing the Lok Sabha yesterday for the first time after coming back to power with an overwhelming majority, Prime Minister Modi spoke in the Rajya Sabha today replying to the ‘Motion of Thanks on the President’s Address’.

At the beginning of his address, PM Modi termed the election process in the country as a matter of global pride. He lauded women voters for coming out in large numbers to vote and thus for the first time reducing the gap that had been there between men and women in terms of the voter turnout. He thanked the police and security forces for successful completion of elections.

Calling ‘EVM blaming’ the ‘latest disease’, the Prime Minister slammed the opposition parties for holding the EVMs responsible for their failure in the Lok Sabha elections. He came down heavily on the Congress for their arrogance and entitlement despite having ruled the country for several years.

“Politics of negativity must end”, the PM urged. Speaking on electoral reforms, PM Modi said that political parties should respect voters’ intellect. He rejected the apprehensions of the opposing political parties that regional parties will lose if elections are held simultaneously giving the example of Odisha where Biju Janata Dal (BJD) managed to win the Assembly elections despite the BJP scoring massive gains in Lok Sabha seats.

The Prime Minister hit out at Congress for having an obstructionist approach and opposing every scheme launched by the BJP government, even the ones like Aadhar that were introduced during the UPA regime.

He said that the government is trying to root out corruption through technology and that the country cannot move ahead without technology. He said that the opposition wants the old India back where cabinet decisions were torn apart during a media conference, where the Navy was involved for family tours of the Gandhi family, where the Tukde-Tukde gang was blatantly supported and so on. He emphasised that the voters of the country have chosen a new India.

PM Modi condemned the Jharkhand mob attack and said that the guilty should be granted the strictest punishment. However, he warned the people who are putting the blame on the entire State for the incident and said that double standards should not be applied to different incidents of crimes happening across the States. He said that the entire State should not be maligned because of one such incident and that law should be allowed to take its own course. He called out the Congress party for giving respectable positions to the accused of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots and asked it to introspect before preaching.

Speaking on the issue of NRC, he said that the government is committed to implementing the NRC. He attacked Congress again for opposing it while it was the Rajiv Gandhi government that had accepted the NRC in the Assam accord. He said that it is the belief of his party that had Patel been the PM, Kashmir issue would not have existed.

PM Modi expressed concern over the outbreak of Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES) in Bihar. He termed the AES outbreak as one of the biggest of all failures of the governments in the past decades. He said that people should be made aware of vaccination, safety, and other health benefits.

Drawing the attention of the House to the water crisis, PM Modi told that 226 districts in the country are facing a water crisis. Stressing the need the make society aware of the issue of the water crisis, he said that the Jal Shakti Ministery will work to address the issues.

In a sheer display of arrogance, Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy on Wednesday was caught on camera lashing out at citizens for protesting over wage issues while threatening to lathi-charge them.

According to the reports, HD Kumaraswamy was travelling to Karegudda for his ‘village stay programme’. While in Raichur, the bus was stopped by a group of protesters, who shouted ‘Shame Shame!’ at Karnataka Chief Minister Kumaraswamy.

The power workers from the Yermarus Thermal Power Station were protesting over wages and other issues. As they raised slogans, the Karnataka chief minister became angry and began lashing out at the people through the bus window.

“You voted for Narendra Modi and want me to get your works done! You want me to give you respect. Should I order to lathi-charge you? Leave the place,” said the angry Chief Minister Kumaraswamy. He also added that they don’t deserve any respect.

This incident came just a day after Kumaraswamy landed in a controversy following reports that the CM had spent over a crore of rupees for his single-day stay in a village. The opposition Bharatiya Janata Party has released a booklet claiming that that the Karnataka CM had spent Rs 1.22 crores during his single-day stay.

In the recent 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the JDS-Congress coalition in Karnataka was routed out by the BJP, which won 25 out of 28 seats. The Congress-JDS coalition despite all its strength and power could only manage to win 1 seat each.

Journalist advices Kerala CPM chief’s rape accused son to convert to Islam to solve his problems

In a video posted on Sunday, well-known journalist and writer from Kerala O Abdulla invited Binoy Kodiyeri, son of Kerala CPM chief Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, to join Islam as a solution to the current rape charges that he is facing reports News18. Binoy has been absconding from the Mumbai Police ever since charges were filed against him on a complaint by a woman.

In the Facebook post, Abdulla said that Binoy must convert to Islam in order to escape from the predicament that he is currently facing. He claimed that Islam offers him the tools to face his psychological problems. Binoy who is a married man is accused of raping a bar dancer. Abdulla said that having two wives wasn’t a problem, giving the example of actor Dharmendra who allegedly converted to Islam to marry a second time.

The Mumbai police had issued a lookout notice for Binoy at all the airports in the country preventing him from flying abroad and to verify whether has gone abroad. The step was taken after Binoy filed an anticipatory bail plea, which a Mumbai session court would decide upon on Thursday.

A Mumbai based women had earlier filed a case against Binoy accusing him of raping her on the pretext of marriage. The two met at a bar in Dubai after which they got into a relationship. He convinced her to come to Mumbai and they also had a son after she moved into a flat he had rented for her in Andheri. However, Binoy allegedly hid from her that fact that he was already married and had two children, and refused to marry her.

Supreme Court stays Delhi HC order permitting AgustaWestland accused Rajeev Saxena to fly abroad

The apex court on Wednesday stayed a Delhi High Court order permitting Rajeev Saxena, an approver in a money laundering case related to the  AgustaWestland VVIP chopper scam, to fly abroad for treatment of blood cancer and other maladies.

Justices Sanjiv Khanna and BR Gavai heading the vacation bench issued a notice to Saxena on a plea filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), contesting the Delhi High Court order that approved Saxena’s visit to the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom and Europe from June 25 to July 24.

Appearing for the Enforcement Directorate, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, presented specific new facts with regard to other offences that have come to light and asserted that the CBI will be formally going to register an FIR against Saxena shortly. He further contended that whether Saxena would return to the country or not is inconsequential and the order permitting him to fly abroad should be re-examined in the light of the new evidence that has surfaced.

After hearing SG Tushar Mehta’s arguments, the bench stayed the High Court’s decision for three weeks and asked the director of AIIMS to evaluate Saxena’s mental and physical health and submit a report within three weeks time.

In addition to this, the bench directed Saxena’s lawyer to obtain instructions on whether his sister and sister-in-law were agreeing to stand surety for him by depositing Rs 5 crore each as a guarantee for allowing him to go abroad for treatment of blood cancer and other diseases.

Rajiv Saxena is an accused in a money laundering case connected with the AgustaWestland deal. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) had named him in a supplementary charge sheet filed in the VVIP Chopper scam in September 2017. Saxena and his wife Shivani Saxena are directors in two Dubai based companies, while he is a director in another Mauritius based company, and it is alleged that all those companies received proceeds of the kickbacks paid in the AgustaWestland deal.

The ED had earlier said that Saxena has no roots in India and he may not return if permitted to go.

CPM admits Sabarimala row proved detrimental to party’s fortunes in the Lok Sabha elections: Report

Introspecting the poll debacle, the Communist Party of India(Marxists) has finally admitted the Sabarimala row had massively backfired for them and electorally benefitted the UDF alliance and the BJP.

As per a report in India Today, in the review meeting that held between June 7- June 9, the party has zeroed in on the conclusion that the controversy that erupted following the Sabarimala verdict and the subsequent entry of two women in the inner sanctum had adversely impacted many of the party sympathisers.

The CPI(M) despite being in power in Kerala only managed to win 2 out of the total 20 Lok Sabha constituencies in the state. The UDF had won 18 of the Lok Sabha seats with unprecedented margins. Earlier in May, CM Vijayan had dismissed the idea that Sabarimala issued worked against his party and had stated that people voted for Congress hoping that it will form the government at the centre.

According to the CPI(M)’s internal review report, BJP and UDF(alliance in Kerala headed by Congress) used the Sabarimala issue to their benefit. The fact that two women entered the temple created a huge negative impact on the party sympathisers and supporters, said the report.

The inference that the Sabarimala row had negatively influenced the Lok Sabha elections is of great significance as it is the first time that CPI(M) has held the temple issue responsible for its ignominious poll drubbing.

Massive protests and demonstrations had ensued following the Supreme Court verdict which dismissed the age-old ban on the entry of women of menstrual age(10-50years) in the Sabarimala temple, one of the most revered and sacred shrines in Kerala. Protestors thronged the Sabarimala temple vowing to preserve the temple traditions of barring women’s entry. The Left was under severe criticism from the opposition for mishandling the deteriorating situation and failing to maintain law and order in the state as violence broke out in many regions.

Kerala administration, led by CPI(M) had willingly aided the entry of two women in the Sabarimala temple, thereby desecrating its centuries-old customs. It had even attempted several times to help non-Hindus and activists in entering the temple, sometimes even escorting them. Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan and the Communist government were viewed by the people as complicit in violating the long-held traditions of the Sabarimala temple. Even the Kerala high court had slammed Pinarayi Vijayan-led communist government in Kerala for using brute force to evict temple devotees from Sabarimala shrine.

You want the ‘Old India’ where Indian Navy was used for family vacations? PM Modi tears into Congress’ narrative

Prime Minister Modi in his Rajya Sabha address today tore into the narrative build by those who mock his ‘New India’ campaign and claim they want their old India back.

PM Modi said, “Do they want old India back? Old India where cabinet decisions were torn in press meets, old India where Navy was used for personal trips, old India where numerous scams existed, old India which supported tukde tukde gang? India is not ready to go back to ‘Old India’.”

In September 2013, the then Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi, in a major embarrassment to Congress had stormed into a press conference being addressed by Ajay Maken and torn up the ordinance on convicted politicians. Rahul Gandhi had called an ordinance brought out by his own government as ‘nonsense’ and given his personal opinion that the ordinance should be ‘torn up and thrown out’. In 2012, too, during a rally in Uttar Pradesh, Rahul had torn off a ‘list of promises’ made by Mayawati and Mulayam Singh to Uttar Pradesh during elections. In 1987, a holidaying group of Rajiv Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi’s mother, her brother and a maternal uncle took INS Viraat on a family vacation to Lakshadweep.

He added he is shocked that schemes such as constructing toilets, Swachha Bharat, Jan Dhan and Yoga day are being mocked at. “Even Make in India programme was mocked at. Everything in the country is being looked at with negativity,” PM said.

Expressing his pain on the Jharkhand lynching and deaths of children in Bihar due to AES outbreak, PM Modi said, “The lynching in Jharkhand has pained me. It has saddened others too. But, some people in the Rajya Sabha are calling Jharkhand a hub of lynching. Is this fair? Why are they insulting a state? None of us have the right to insult the state of Jharkhand. The deaths in Bihar due to Acute Encephalitis Syndrome are unfortunate and a matter of shame for us. We have to take this seriously. I am in constant touch with the state Govt and I am sure we will collectively come out of this crisis soon.”

He added that violence in Jharkhand, West Bengal or Kerala should be dealt with equality. He also said that strengthening Ayushman Bharat is a priority such that the affordable medical treatment can reach the poor.

Sterling Biotech loan fraud: ED further attaches UK assets worth Rs 9778 crores belonging to Sandesara family

In a recent development, the Enforcement Directorate has attached properties worth Rs 9778 crore belonging to brothers Chetan and Nitin Sandesara in the Sterling biotech case. As per reports, the attached properties include planes and real estate.

Moreover, an extradition process has already been initiated against the Sterling Biotech promoters and the Sandesara family. Earlier we had reported that the Enforcement Directorate had moved to a special court seeking to get the owners of Gujarat-based Sterling Biotech group declared fugitive economic offenders under the Fugitive Economic Offenders Bill 2018.

It’s worthy to note here that the ED has made similar pleas, under the new fugitive law, against Vijay Mallya and diamond jewellers Nirav Modi and Mehul Choksi in separate bank loan money laundering probes.

Meanwhile, with the ED attaching assets worth Rs 4700 crores belonging to the Sterling Biotech last year on December 7, the total attached properties stands at approximately Rs 13000 crore now. ED has further revealed that total outstanding dues to banks are over Rs 13,371 crore rupees.

The ED has been probing the alleged Rs 8,100-crore bank loan fraud case against the promoters of the Gujarat-based group. In August 2017, the ED filed a case of money laundering against Sterling Biotech company, the same month in which the promoters of the group, Nitin and Chetan Sandesara, fled the country.

Later on October 23, 2018, the agency filed a charge sheet in the Sterling Biotech case in a special PMLA (Prevention of money laundering Act) court in New Delhi.

The Gujarat-based Sterling Biotech group bank loan fraud case relates to the promoters of the group, Nitin and Chetan Sandesara, and others who availed credit worth thousands of crores sanctioned by a consortium of banks, that turned NPA.

The Sandesaras, who fled the country in August 2017, had allegedly used hundreds of shell companies in India and abroad to divert and misuse loan funds.

Nitin Sandesara was apprehended by the Dubai police in August last year. He is reportedly known as a close aide of Congress leader Ahmed Patel.

After the ED had decided to tighten the noose on the Sandesara family in their alleged involvement in the massive bank fraud, names of Congress leader Ahmed Patel, his son, Faisal Patel, and his son-in-law, Irfan Siddiqui, had surfaced for their alleged involvement in the same.

Meanwhile, all the four promoters of Sterling group namely Nitin Sandesara, Chetan Sandesara, Dipti Sandesara and Hitesh Patel had fled the country fearing a criminal probe in this multi-crore fraud case. “The Directorate has sought confiscation of their properties in India and abroad,” said the agency.

Recently, one of the four promoters, Hitesh Patel, was detained in the European country of Albania. A Red-Corner notice was issued against him on the 11th of March. He has been detained by Albania’s National Crime Bureau-Tirana. He is also expected to be extradited to India soon.

Leonardo DiCaprio expresses concern about Chennai water crisis, says “Only rain can save Chennai from this situation”

Hollywood actor Leonardo DiCaprio, posted a message on Instagram sharing his concern for the ongoing water crisis in Chennai. He posted a picture of an empty well, surrounded by women trying to draw out water and numerous plastics pots lying on the ground.

He wrote: “Only rain can save Chennai from this situation.” A well completely empty, and a city without water. The southern Indian city of Chennai is in crisis, after the four main water reservoirs ran completely dry. The acute water shortage has forced the city to scramble for urgent solutions and residents have to stand in line for hours to get water from government tanks. As the water levels depleted, hotels and restaurants started to shut down temporarily, and the air con was turned off in the city’s metro. Officials in the city continue to try and find alternative sources of water – but the community continue to pray for rain. Tap the link in our bio to read more about Chennai’s water crisis.

This is the second time a week that the Titanic star has commented on environmental issues in India. Two days ago he had posted about the Ghazipur Garbage Dump in Delhi. He had posted a World Economic Forum video on Instagram which talked about the every growing garbage dump that has become a hill, and about pollution in India in general. The garbage hill is 65 meters tall at present, which is growing at the rate of 10 meters per years. Reports earlier this month had said that the garbage dump will become taller than Tajmahal next year.

DiCaprio is a vocal environmentalist and had spoken about climate change in the UN. He has produced several documentaries on this topic with ‘Ice on Fire‘ being the latest one.

Chennai has been reeling under an acute water shortage after four major reservoirs – Poondi, Chembarambakkam, Puzhal and Cholavaram had completely dried up. Tap waters have gone dry and residents have to depend on tankers for fresh water. The situation is expected to continue until the October-November when the northeast monsoon hits the state.

The DMK had arranged a nationwide protest holding the AIADMK government responsible for the current situation. Despite this, the DMK has also threatened to stage a massive protest if the water is procured from Vellore.
