International media reports of firing on protesters are fabricated and motivated, not a single bullet fired: Jammu and Kashmir Police

0

Jammu and Kashmir police have denied reports by a section of international media claiming that Kashmir has seen violent protests against abrogation of Article 370. Since the last couple of days, some media houses like BBC, Al Jazira etc have been reporting that Srinagar and other places in Kashmir saw massive protests involving thousands of people, and police used force to combat them, including firing shots and tear gas shells.

But Jammu and Kashmir have categorically denied the reports, saying that no firing incident has taken place in Kashmir over the last 6 days, after the govt took the decision to abrogate Article 370 and Article 35A, and bifurcate the state into two union territories. The Chief Secretary and DGP of the state have requested people not to believe fabricated and motivated news.

They have said that people should not believe any mischievous and motivated news regarding firing incidents in the Kashmir valley. Saying that police have not fired a single bullet so far, the Jammu and Kashmir police state that the situation in the state is calm, people are cooperative and restrictions are being relaxed to ease the situation. The statement also states that Srinagar and other towns were full of traffic yesterday and people were busy with Eid shopping.

A video message was also posted by the SP Pani, IGP Kashmir, denying the international media reports about firing incidents. He said that no firing incident has taken place and the reports are wrong. He added that the valley has remained largely peaceful during the last week, and he urged the media agencies to act responsibly.

Government extends relief to startups, simplifies the process of angel tax assessment

In a major relief to startups, the Narendra Modi government has decided to simplify the angel-tax assessment process under which any action against startups will be taken only after approval of a supervisory officer.

In a circular issued on August 10, the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has clarified that no verification will be done by an assessing officer if a startup has been recognised by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) and the case is selected under limited scrutiny.

“In case of startup companies recognised by DPIIT which have filed Form No. 2 and whose cases have been selected under scrutiny to examine multiple issues including the issue of section 56(2)(viib), this issue will not be pursued during the assessment proceedings and inquiry on other issues will be carried out by the Assessing Officer only after obtaining approval of the supervisory authority,” an official statement said.

Form 2 deals with the exemption of startups from income tax subject to certain criteria. If a startup is not recognised by the DPIIT, then the inquiry would be carried out after the approval of a supervisory officer.

The circular followed the announcement made by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in Budget. The Finance Minister had proposed a series of incentives, including a special arrangement for resolution of pending assessments of income tax cases, with a view to encouraging startups.`

“To resolve the so-called ‘angel tax’ issue, the startups and their investors who file requisite declarations and provide information in their returns will not be subjected to any kind of scrutiny in respect of valuations of share premiums,” she had said.

The issue of establishing the identity of the investor and source of his/her funds will be resolved by putting in place a mechanism of e-verification.

Tomato prices through the roof in Pakistan as government snaps trade ties over abrogation of Article 370, selling at Rs 300 per kg

In retaliation against Modi government’s decision to abrogate Article 370 and bifurcate Jammu and Kashmir into two union territories, parody country Pakistan has formally suspended trade ties with India. However, the country which is crying over rising price of ‘roti’ and ‘naan’ may soon have to cry over price of tomatoes.

The prices of tomatoes in Pakistan are soaring at Rs 300 per kg. Prices of various other vegetables, including that of potatoes, onions and green vegetables in Pakistan have also risen considerably. Due to its high dependence on exports from India, this decision has hit the already economically- ruined Pakistan hard.

Pakistan had called in a National Security Council meeting on August 7 in which it arrived at the decision of severing trade between the two countries, downgrading bilateral diplomatic ties with India and raising the issue of Kashmir in the United Nations Security Council among other things.

Other than tomatoes, potatoes which earlier might have cost Rs 10-12 per kg is now costing the people of Pakistan not less than Rs 30-35.

It is pertinent to note here, that Pakistan until now got its maximum supply of tomatoes from Madhya Pradesh in India. Many farmers in Mourya, Jhabua, Shajapur, Khargone and Ratlam districts in Madhya Pradesh export tomatoes to Pakistan. The trade takes place through export agencies in Amritsar via the Attari-Wagah border. During the peak season in October-November, 50-60 trucks, each with a capacity of 15 tonnes, pass through the border every day.

Pakistan had earlier too, in a fallout of the ghastly Pulwama attack, amongst other things, suffered a crunch in the supply of tomatoes. The tomato growing farmers of Jhabua district of Madhya Pradesh had then decided not to export their produce to Pakistan.

As a mark of respect for the fallen and to protest against Pakistan’s wicked machinations, around 5000 of the farming community engaging in the cultivation of tomatoes in Jhabua’s Petlawad had concluded of not exporting their tomatoes to a country which indulges in killing India’s soldiers.

India had then tried to isolate Pakistan internationally and had levied 200% customs duty on the Pakistani goods imported. This had then resulted in a massive economic and trade shock to the already near-bankrupt state of Pakistan. Then too, the trade suspension had not affected India as much as it did Pakistan. In the first quarter of FY20, India’s exports to Pakistan were $452.5 million and imports were $7.13 million. In FY19, total exports to Pakistan were $2.06 billion, while imports were $495 million.

Notably, Pakistan does not feature among India’s top 35 exporters and importers, while India stands on the seventh position in its list of exporters. Therefore, Imran Khan’s decision to suspends trade ties with India is bound to hit the parody nation dearly.

Nehru was a criminal, he announced ceasefire and imposed Article 370: Former Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan

On Saturday, Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan called former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru a ‘criminal’ for committing the crime of imposing Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir and also of announcing ‘cease-fire’ in war with Pakistan.

According to ANI, senior BJP leader Shivraj Singh Chouhan said, “Jawaharlal Nehru was a criminal. First, he committed the crime of announcing ceasefire in war with Pakistan at times when Indian forces were driving out the Pakistan infiltrators from Jammu and Kashmir (J&K), due to which one-third of the portion (PoK) remained with Pakistan.”

“The second crime he did was the crime of imposing Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir. In one country, how can two symbols, two constitution and two heads can exist? This was not injustice but was a crime against the nation,” said Chouhan.

Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s attack on former Prime Minister Nehru comes after Parliament recently corrected a historic Nehruvian blunder by revoking Article 370 that gave separate status to the Jammu and Kashmir and also passed Jammu and Kashmir (Reorganization) Act 2019, reorganizing the state in two Union Territories — Jammu and Kashmir with Assembly and Ladakh without it.

Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap quits Twitter, claims he was not allowed to speak his mind without fear

Two days ahead of release of second season of Sacred Games on Netflix, filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has quit Twitter by deactivating his Twitter account. Before leaving, he took to the micro-blogging site to inform everyone that he is leaving the platform.

He claimed that his parents were starting to get calls and his daughter was getting online threats. “no one wants you to talk,” he tweeted. “Thugs will rule and thuggery will be the new way of life,” he said while congratulating everyone on the ‘new India’, taking a jibe at Prime Minister Modi’s campaign for New India. He added that he would rather not speak his mind if he is not allowed to speak without fear.

The Gangs of Wasseypur director, who had earlier defended Tarun Tejpal in rape case, also identifies himself as an ‘achiever’ and recently wrote to PM Modi on ‘rising intolerance‘. He, along with other ‘achievers’ were called out for their selective outrage and hypocrisy. Kashyap himself had resorted to spread misinformation regarding the murder of the three-year-old in Aligarh recently. Kashyap, who is reluctant to accept the communal nature of the incident as it destructs their ‘Dara Hua Musalman’ narrative went on to proclaim that there was no rape or any other sort of brutality against the child and accused people of creating an atmosphere of riots using the incident.

He had once also revealed a mobile number of a journalist on Twitter, following which she got harassed by trolls. He is also quick to label people he disagrees with on social media as ‘radicals’. The second season of Netflix series ‘Sacred Games’ directed by Kashyap, will be released on 15th August.

‘Tum log zindagi bhar maa bete ki ghulami karte rahoge,’ Twitterati reacts to Congress’ inability to see beyond the dynasty

As the first family of the Congress along with the Congress Working Committee (CWC) worked extremely hard to select Sonia Gandhi as the interim president of the Congress party to replace her son Rahul Gandhi, social media users were shocked and stormed the micro-blogging site Twitter with reactions.

The meme marathon began with BJP social media in-charge Amit Malviya taking a jibe at Congress party members for falling back to selecting mother Sonia Gandhi to replace son Rahul Gandhi. He posted a video of a popular dialogue from the recent movie ‘Indu Sarkar’ to mock how Congress party cannot survive without Gandhi parivar.

Soon, the memes began to hit social media with popular Hollywood and Bollywood reference to the recent decision of the Congress. Some of the social media users even began a trend ‘The Mummy Returns‘ to take a dig at Sonia Gandhi for being reelected as the party chief.

Other users brought in Bollywood reference to express their opinion on the state of the Congress party and its members after Sonia Gandhi became the interim president.

Here are few other memes featuring Union Home Minister Amit Shah and the BJP after Sonia Gandhi became interim president.

Few users gave a touch of political humour to the controversy.

Sonia Gandhi will now serve as an ‘interim President’ after the Congress Working Committee (CWC) put up her name last evening. It was reported that the CWC had at first insisted that Rahul Gandhi takes back his resignation instead. Late last night, the CWC accepted Rahul Gandhi’s resignation, a month after he officially resigned as party president, and Sonia was made the ‘interim president’. The proposal was moved by Ghulam Nabi Azad, P Chidambaram and Anand Sharma and backed by former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh.

Reportedly, some people within the Congress believe that a non-Gandhi as party president would ‘disintegrate’ the party. Punjab Congress chief Sunil Jakhar reportedly said that he would sit at home if any ‘Tom, Dick or Harry’ whose names are floating will be made the party chief. Jyotiraditya Scindia, Sachin Pilot, Milind Deora were some of the names in the fray for the party post.

Aligarh: Mohammad Mohsin threatened and beaten up after wife participated in BJP’s membership drive

In a shocking incident, the husband of a local Muslim BJP leader was allegedly beaten near Delhi Gate in Aligarh by some people who were miffed about the participation of his wife in a membership drive of his party here.

Reportedly, Farheen Mohsin is a leader of the BJP minority wing in Aligarh. Her husband Mohammad Mohsin was allegedly attacked after she registered members under the BJP membership drive. According to Mohsin, Muslims women have aspirations from Prime Minister Modi after the triple talaq bill was passed. “Every Muslim woman wants to join BJP. Many orthodox people in my neighbourhood can’t see their women stepping out of their houses,” she said.

“They are threatening to stop the membership drive. I have received death threats asking me to stop my work, my husband was attacked due to the same reason. The incident took place on August 8. Some people came and abused us. They also have beaten up my husband,” Mohsin said.

Mohammad Mohsin, the victim and husband of Farheen Mohsin said that assailants threatened him to stop his wife speaking against the practice of triple talaq.

“Seven to eight people attacked me inside my office. They said my wife should not speak anything on triple talaq and this is not in their religion. They threatened that they will not let my wife work in BJP,” he said.

“A woman named Farheen Mohin has filed a complaint that some people threatened her over her participation in BJP membership drive and used violence. A case has been registered and the required action is being taken,” Additional Superintendent of Police, Aligarh (City) Abhishek told ANI.

In a historic act, triple talaq bill was passed by Narendra Modi led NDA government making a declaration of talaq-e-biddat in spoken, written or through SMS or WhatsApp or any other electronic chat illegal. Talaq-e-biddat refers to the pronouncement of talaq three times by a Muslim man in one sitting to his wife resulting in an instant and irrevocable divorce.

On August 1, President Ram Nath Kovind also gave his assent to the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage), Bill, 2019, which criminalises instant ‘triple talaq’ among Muslims and attracts a jail term of three years for the husband.

The Mummy Returns: Sonia Gandhi new Congress President, again

The last time she became Congress president, the then Congress chief Sitaram Kesri was reportedly locked up in a bathroom in Congress headquarters at Akbar Road so he could not stop Sonia Gandhi from entering the office with her supporters to take over as the party president.

No such drama last night as after her son resigned from the post last month, he was quite adamant to be firm on his resignation. In fact, her son Rahul Gandhi had taken over the reins from her after she served as the party head for almost twenty years. While Rahul Gandhi was adamant that the party president’s post should not go to a Gandhi and should go to a younger leader, eventually his 72-year-old mother was made the leader again.

Sonia Gandhi will now serve as an ‘interim President’ after the Congress Working Committee (CWC) put up her name last evening. Prior to that, it was reported that the CWC had at first insisted that Rahul Gandhi takes back his resignation instead. That Congress cannot even think beyond the Gandhi family, Sonia Gandhi’s daughter and Rahul Gandhi’s sister, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who is also Congress General Secretary and forayed into politics officially early this year, was also considered for the top post. Eventually late evening, Rahul Gandhi’s name was again floated as party president while mother Sonia works as ‘interim president’.

Sonia Gandhi, who is usually reluctant and unwilling to take over most posts but eventually relents due to public mood, gave in this time as well. If in 2004 she ‘gave up’ the post of prime minister by listening to her inner voice, this time she gave in and took up the top party post again to ‘help party out of this situation’. Sonia will hold on to the post of the party’s ‘interim’ president till full time elections are held within the AICC. Perhaps then she can pass on the baton to her daughter, Priyanka Gandhi, who is also a reluctant politician, much like rest of the family which always goes by the public mood.

As per reports, some within the Congress believe that a non-Gandhi as party president would ‘disintegrate’ the party.

Rahkeem Cornwall set to become heaviest cricketer in the world

On Friday, West Indian selectors picked Rahkeem Cornwall for the Test series against India starting on August 22 in Antigua. The all-rounder weighs 140 kgs, the heaviest in International cricket, in case he is selected to play the test. The selectors have not included the West Indian veteran Chris Gayle who wanted to play his last test series in West Indies.

Rahkeem Cornwall has played 55 matches at the First Class level and has 2224 runs at an average of 24.43 and 260 wickets at an average of 23.60 to his name. The West Indies selectors have picked him for the Test series against India which starts on August 22 at his home ground in Antigua.

Australia’s Warwick Armstrong who played 50 tests in the early 1900s weighed 139 kgs during his playing days considered to be the heaviest cricketer played International Cricket.

“Rahkeem has been performing consistently over a long period of time and has proven to be a match-winner, so we believe his elevation to the Test squad is merited at this time,” said panel chief Robert Haynes.

Chris Gayle, who earlier said that he wanted to play Test and ODI against India, was picked for ODIs but now has been dropped for Test series. Gayle has played 103 Tests for West Indies and has scored 7214 runs, and he is one of the four players to score two triple hundreds in Tests.

West Indies Test squad for India series: Jason Holder (c), Kraigg Brathwaite, Darren Bravo, Shamarh Brooks, John Campbell, Roston Chase, Rahkeem Cornwall, Shane Dowrich, Shannon Gabriel, Shimron Hetmyer, Shai Hope, Keemo Paul, Kemar Roach.

PETA unmasks horrifying cruelty being meted out to animals as Eid is round the corner

0

As the Muslim population in the country gears up for celebrating Eid-al-Adha, the Islamic festival of sacrifice, popularly known as Bakrid, PETA, the non-profit animal rights organisation visited an abattoir in Mumbai’s Deonar revealing ineffable cruelties being meted out to animals on the eve of Eid.

PETA India visited a slaughterhouse in Deonar region of Mumbai, where reportedly more than 1.24 lakhs goats and sheep and about 2,700 buffaloes have arrived from Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and even as far away as Assam to be sold for sacrifice. A disconcerting video shared by PETA shows how animals being transported to the slaughterhouse were subjected to horrible atrocities, in contravention to the animal transport laws, as mandated by a 2017 order of the Supreme Court of India.

The video apprises one of the grim reality of the savagery suffered by animals during their transportation to abattoirs and the subsequent ruthless treatment at the slaughterhouses. As can be seen in the video, a worker at the slaughterhouse admits on record that animals habitually die in transport due to overcrowding and lack of care by the transporters. The bodies of animals who die in transit are treated with egregious insensitivity as bulldozers are used to dispose of the carcasses of dead animals.

PETA has written letters to the senior officials of the Maharashtra state government, the Mumbai Police, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, the Maharashtra State Animal Welfare Board, the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, the Animal Welfare Board of India, and the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India asking them to conduct immediate scrutiny of the slaughterhouse and implement laws regarding animal transport and slaughter at the facility.

Across the world, millions of cattle, mostly goats are slaughtered on the day of Bakrid as a mark of the sacrifice made to the Almighty. PETA has called upon the Muslims to abstain from sacrificing animals and urged them to grant these voiceless animals mercy by observing a bloodless Eid. PETA has asked Muslims to instead distribute vegan foods, offer charities and indulge in everything other than those that involve killing animals.
