EC forms Media Monitoring Committee in Haryana to keep paid news under check ahead of assembly polls

A spokesperson of the office of Chief Electoral Officer said the committee will be chaired by Anurag Aggarwal, the Chief Electoral Officer for Haryana.

Chief Electoral Officer of Haryana has constituted a state-level Media Certification and Monitoring Committee (MCMC) ahead of the Haryana assembly elections with immediate effect.

According to a news report, a spokesperson of the office of Chief Electoral Officer said the committee will be chaired by Anurag Aggarwal, the Chief Electoral Officer for Haryana.

MCMC will comprise members including Director (M&C), Chandigarh, PIB, Pavitra Singh, Senior Technical Director, NIC, (Scientist F), Ganesh Dutt and Deputy Director, Information, Public Relations and Languages Department, Anita Dutta. However, Inder Jeet (Media Incharge), Joint Chief Electoral Officer has been appointed as Member Secretary of the committee, the press release stated.

“This committee will decide on the appeal made for certification of the advertisements of committees constituted under the chairmanship of Additional Chief Electoral Officer at the district level as per the guidelines of Election Commission,” added the spokesperson.

All appeals for paid-news against the decision of the committee will be monitored by the district level MCMC, besides investigating cases independently.
