As per reports, various New Delhi districts have been put under multi-layer security blanket after a specific terror intel received by the intelligence bureau that two Khalistani terrorists are headed towards Delhi in a car with a Uttar Pradesh registration number, carrying a huge cache of explosives to attack the Parliament amidst the ongoing Parliament’s monsoon session.
Reportedly the terrorists -Lakhwinder Singh and Parminder Singh, in their late 40’s, who are travelling from the Nepal border in a white Innova car (UP26 AR 24), are trained in assembling IED’s. The police have been alerted and all efforts are on to nab them.
As reported by Times of India, the intel has been given the highest priority as it came from two sources. Apart from the agency, the same information came from an anonymous caller, who shared it with the Delhi Police. The informer reportedly identified himself as one Iqbal. The number was tracked down to Udham Singh Nagar in Uttarakhand. The alert came at the time when the agencies confirmed that a stolen car or a government vehicle could be used by terrorists in the run-up to the Independence Day celebrations.
As per officials, the two names given by the informer resemble the ones sought out in Nabha jailbreak of Punjab in November 2016. It is being suspected that the two are close aids of Nabha jail escapee and the self-proclaimed chief of the Khalistan Liberation Force, Harminer Singh Mintoo. Police are, however, verifying the same.
The input comes in the wake of several other alerts which suggest that the terrorists part of the Khalistan movement are attempting resurgence, with most of their leaders based in Pakistan, seeking the assistance of the ISI to relaunch the Khalistani ‘movement’.
Very recently the National Investigation Agency had busted a plot to carry out a series of assassinations of several BJP and RSS leaders. The idea was to create communal tension and throw the law and order out of gear and then makes attempts to revive militancy. NIA officials said that the operation was being funded from Canada, Italy, and the UK.
Former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi too was assassinated by her bodyguards, who were influenced by the Khalistani cause. The assassination triggered the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. The Parliament House too had been attacked once earlier, by Kashmiri separatists, in 2001. One of the terrorists involved in the attack, Afzal Guru, was hanged in 2013. Once again the Parliament is suspected of being targeted as India prepares to celebrate its 71st year of Independence.
The latest in the shameful event that unfolded in Bareilly, that was reported by Opindia on the 9th of July, the man who forced his daughter-in-law to undergo ‘nikah halala’ with him so that she could remarry his son, was booked on rape charges.
The police lodged the FIR at Kila police station after the 28-year-old victim met SSP Muniraj G along with Aala Hazrat Helping Society head Nida Khan, herself a victim of triple talaq, and lodged her complaint.
The victim told the SSP that after divorcing her the first time, as per the provisions of ‘talaq-e-biddat’ or ‘instant triple talaq’, her husband and other members of her in-laws’ family forced her to marry her father-in-law under ‘nikah halala’ and consummate her marriage with him. This was to allow her to remarry her divorced husband. But even after remarrying her husband the father-in-law continued to rape her. On revolting against it, her husband divorced her again, this time forcing her to undergo ‘Nikah Halala’ with her brother-in-law.
Subjected to these atrocities Sabina, the victim fled from her marital home and decided to take a stand against the humiliation. Sabina determined to fight for justice seek the help of the police, who registered an FIR on rape charges against the father-in-law and also lodged a separate FIR against the victim’s husband, brother-in-law and mother-in-law on charges of demanding dowry and subjecting her to various cruelties.
Aala Hazrat Helping Society head Nida, along with three dozen other Muslim women, had held a press conference where they talked about the ordeals and atrocities carried out by their husbands under the guise of triple talaq. The women have also demanded a female Kaazi (a judge or magistrate of a Sharia court).
According to Nida, Muslim women could get justice only with strict laws. She raised questions against the fatwas issued by maulvis and said how they are usually misogynist and anti-women. Only with a stricter implementation of laws can the atrocities against women under the guise of shariat could stop, said Nida.
Meanwhile, a local Muslim cleric issued a ‘fatwa’ (diktat) against social activist Nida Khan for “speaking against” Islam and its practices.
Telugu Desam Party’s (TDP) Member of Parliament JC Diwakar Reddy has declared that he won’t attend the parliamentary session during the no-confidence motion, which has been brought in by his own party, Times of India has reported. The no-confidence motion would be taken up for a discussion on Friday, following which a voting would take place.
TDP which is instrumental in moving the no-confidence motion, has issued a whip to all its MPs asking them to attend Parliament on Friday. The Chandrababu Naidu led party has justified this move as a reaction to the injustice meted out to Andhra Pradesh – in form of non-deliverance of special status to the state.
Now the TDP MP Diwakar Reddy has openly declared his decision to not follow his party whip by claiming that, he is fed up with the TDP government, his party and the nation’s political system as a whole:
I’m not going to attend Parliament session, you can say that I violated the party whip. I’m fed up with the centre & our TDP govt. I’m fed up with the whole political system: JC Diwakar Reddy, TDP MP to ANI pic.twitter.com/QTZBUrs8rW
According to an ANIfeed, the MP is currently in his native place of Anantpur and would speak to media within a week to further explain his logic.
Incidentally the Times of India report has shed more light on the matter by quoting the MP as saying that the no-confidence motion is a routine affair as the Modi government is not going to fall anyway. He also claimed that his presence won’t make any difference as he can’t speak either English or Hindi.
The report speculates that the TDP’s non committal stance over ticket allocation in Anantapuramu is the reason why the MP is sulking.
BJP Mumbai spokesperson Suresh Nakhua has filed an FIR against AAP founder Ravi Srivastav for mocking his disability and hurting his sentiments deliberately on social media.
Police Complaint filed against Mr Ravi Srivastav (@ravi4354), @AamAadmiParty founder, under Section 92 of RPWD Act, 2016 at Sakinaka Police Station of @MumbaiPolice .
Nakhua has stated that he has been suffering from polio since childhood and Ravi Srivastav’s comments were intentionally targeted to demean him and mock his disability. The FIR has been filed under section 92 of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016.
Nakhua and Srivastav had both appeared for a live debate on Times Now on 16th July on the issue of Rajiv Gandhi being criticised in the Netflix series ‘Sacred Games’ and Congress supporters trying to stop criticism by filing a complaint on the showrunners.
Srivastav had tweeted that criticising Rajiv Gandhi was futile and had added that had Nehru and Indira not administer polio drops to Nakhua, he would not be sitting there.
It is notable here that the Netflix show ‘Sacred Games’ had a scene where the narrator Nawazuddin Siddiqui states that Rajiv Gandhi was a ‘fattu’ which was mentioned as ‘pussy’ in the subtitles) who threw Shah Bano to be harassed by Maulanas after she won her case. Congress workers had filed a complaint against the show claiming it has defamed the party.
The Kerala police on Wednesday arrested a 20-year-old BA Arabic Student named Muhammed on charges of murdering an SFI activist, The Hindu has reported.
Muhammed a student of Maharaja College, is said to be the college President of Campus Front of India – a student arm of radical Islamist organisation PFI. He was arrested while travelling in a train near Mangalapuram.
As reported by us, Abhimanyu – a student leader of the CPM was stabbed to death on the campus of Maharaja college by members of the radical Islamist outfit’s student arm. This attack was a result of a dispute between the two student groups over wall writings.
Following the crime, the police arrested Adil, a member of Campus front of India, and four top leaders of the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), which is the political arm of the PFI. The police suspected that these SDPI cadres were responsible for the murder of the student activist and harbouring the murder accused.
Now The Hindu report has claimed that following the murder Muhammed had escaped to Goa via Kannur to initially take shelter in a Mosque. He had later contacted the leadership of PFI to shift to a new hiding place.
As reported by Indian Express, IGP of Kochi Range – Vijay Sakhare has detailed Muhammed’s role in the murder. As per the IGP, Muhammed had called members of PFI and SDPI to attack Abhimanyu, with the police now searching for the accused who did the actual stabbing.
Following his arrest, Muhammed was interrogated throughout the day in Kochi. As confessed by him, the Campus Front was adamant about putting up graffiti on the campus walls but faced resistance from the SFI activists. As a result, it was reportedly decided that they won’t cede the wall to SFI at any cost, which resulted in a violent conflict.
We reported exclusively yesterday that Robert Vadra, son in law of Sonia Gandhi had served Arnab Goswami with a legal notice for Republic TV’s newsbreak that spoke about the ‘Vadra papers’. The news aired by Republic TV discussed Income Tax documents which said that Robert Vadra was to cough up Rs. 25 crores on undisclosed income of Rs 42.6 crores.
OpIndia has now accessed the legal notice that was sent to Arnab Goswami through our sources. As we reported earlier, the legal notice has been sent to Arnab Goswami and Prema Sridevi. The legal notice has been tendered on behalf of Robert Vadra and Sky Light Hospitality.
The notice said that Arnab’s show made “wild and false statements” and cast “aspersions on the integrity of the client (Robert Vadra)”. Some of the statements made by Arnab Goswami are mentioned in the notice. They are as follows :
1. “Dirtiest form of nepotism, the lowest form of corruption and highest form of opportunism”
2. “Robert Vadra is above the law”
3. “Robert Vadra is a symbol of everything that is rotten that existed”
4. “Robert Vadra is a symbol of everything rotten that has set in the system”
Robert Vadra has accused Arnab Goswami of maliciously and deliberately trying to “lower the image of Robert Vadra in front of the public at large”. He calls the broadcast where Republic TV revealed that they were in possession of IT Documents that prove Vadra has disclosed on 36 Lakhs as income and the undisclosed income amounted to Rs. 42 crores as a “selective leak”.
Interestingly, going further in the notice, Vadra drags in even the Income Tax Department in the discourse. The Notice says that Arnab Goswami and the Income Tax Department suppressed the fact that the sale of land was duly declared and capital gain tax paid.
It contends that the demand of tax is 15 crores and not 25 crores as alleged, and that too is “disputed” by Vadra. It goes on to say that Income Tax proceedings are supposed to be confidential and should not have been made public without the consent of Robert Vadra.
Vadra then proceeds to make an extremely tall claim. He alleged that Arnab Goswami got the documents from either the Income Tax Department and government officials “under the orders of and to please the current political masters”. It is indeed shocking that such juvenile language would be used in an official legal notice.
The notice then “called upon” Arnab Goswami to disclose how he got the income tax papers (essentially, reveal his sources) and whether they got full information from the department or not. It also accuses Goswami of being “hand in gloves” with the government departments in order to “tarnish the image” of Robert Vadra. Apparently, the report has lowered Vadra’s stature in front of the public and his family at large.
The notice reiterated, “The entire tone, tenor and phraseology of your broadcast are misleading and are laden premeditated and deliberate fatal misstatements and inaccuracies”. How the statements made by Arnab Goswami were “fatal” in nature, has not been elucidated specifically, of course.
We reached out to Arnab Goswami for his statement on the contents of the legal notice and whether he wanted to say anything to Mr Vadra regarding the notice.
Mr Goswami said :
“Robert is scared. He looks like he is frightened about facts coming out in the public domain. He should come on my debate at 9 pm instead of wasting his large amounts of money on lawyers. The income tax order is with us and reporting it is our right. If he wants to take on Republic and try and stop us from reporting on him he is welcome to try his luck. I think he is worried that our reports will thwart his political ambitions”.
Mr Goswami clearly stands by his report and refuses to back down. He has also asked Robert Vadra to come on his debate at 9 PM instead of wasting money on lawyers.
Robert Vadra is, of course, not going to accept the offer to debate. However, the next few days promise to be extremely interesting with an “Arnab vs Robert” fight brewing and Arnab, who by design and perhaps by habit, doesn’t pull back any punches.
The Gujarat government has decided to withdraw the security cover of the controversial and disgraced former IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt. Reportedly, there was only 1 police officer that was assigned for Bhatt’s security, and that was withdrawn because post the periodic review, there was no threat perception that deemed protection necessary.
The Commissioner of Ahmedabad, AK Singh confirmed that security cover given to the former officer has been withdrawn, but he declined to share the details related to the decision. It is said that the security given to the important people is reviewed every six months and decisions taken based on the review.
The 1988 batch IPS officer was removed from the prestigious service after he was found to have taken ‘unauthorised absence’ from the service. Earlier, he was suspended in 2011 for not appearing before an enquiry committee.
Bhatt “rose to fame” when he accused the Gujarat government of 2002 Godhra riots. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was the chief minister of the state when the riots took place. The former police officer is a witness in several ongoing riot cases. Bhatt is also accused of having given “certain facilities” to prisoners when he was serving as the Superintendent of Central Jail in Ahmedabad.
Sanjiv Bhatt reacted to the state government’s decision, said that this was an attempt to silence the voice of those people who speak against the government. He said, “They want to send out the message that whoever speaks against them will be intimidated and silenced.”
Bhatt also wrote a letter to the chief minister Vijay Rupani regarding the withdrawal of security. In his letter, he requested the state government not to take such decisions which would jeopardise the security of him and his family.
“The continual disregard of my genuine requests and the repeated blatant actions by the offices and agencies working under your direct control and supervision, to jeopardize my security as well as the security and safety, not only amount to wilful abdication of an obligatory duty cast upon the state, but also be tantamount to intentionally misleading and dishonouring an assurance given to the Supreme Court,” the letter said.
Bhatt was given a Y category security cover, which was gradually reduced to one personal security cover and was given a police constable to protect him.
Sanjiv Bhatt is known to be a controversial person, as he has time and again peddled lies and fake news to defame the Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Earlier, he had used a picture of a Kashmiri boy and the security officers and twisted it to suit his agenda. He is called out almost every day for his anti-India rants and bigotry on social media.
If this letter reaches you, I hope you see how utterly disappointed I am.
You see, if a person like Azam Khan or Asaduddin Owaisi made the sort of remarks you have, I would have taken it with a pinch of salt. But the fact that an esteemed former Vice President of this nation has made such irresponsible declarations- I find very difficult to digest.
When you had first suggested that the Muslims in this country were “insecure”, I felt at the time, that the outrage was a little more than necessary. However, as I see the sort of suggestions you make in a chain of interviews and speeches, it becomes evident that the first remark was no ‘accident’ or an exception to your views. At this point, the facade of diplomacy ceases to cover the dangerous views you propound.
I want to begin by addressing your comments on the recent issue in the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), where a Jinnah portrait was held up. When there was a nationwide disapproval of its presence in the university (which you were a Vice Chancellor of), what did you say?
In an interview with Sagarika Ghose, you said that “It’s an old tradition in the students union there to honour public personalities. Whoever is honoured, their portrait is put up.”
I only wish that India’s former Vice President would remember what India stands for: this nation stands for the fact that Hindus and Muslims can co-exist in society, and is, therefore, fundamentally against the two-nation theory propagated by Jinnah, which suggested the exact opposite.
I want you to remember what ‘honouring’ Jinnah in today’s India would mean, sir. Holding his portrait in a place of honour today is honouring the man for what he advocated; for the theories he propounded; for the way, he divided people on the basis of religion; for the disgusting acts of violence, he anchored through his call for direct action.
And so, when a Jinnah portrait is removed in AMU, it goes a long way in terms of sending a message across; a message that such bigoted voices will not be encouraged in our country. Still, what surprises me the most, is how you concede that these portraits are held in honour and yet, suggest that Jinnah’s must be upheld today.
And here’s what I find interesting – you seem to have preempted such an answer, by jumping to meaningless whataboutery, as a means to cover the flaws in your argument. ‘If you can have Victoria Memorial, what’s wrong with a Jinnah portrait?’, you asked the country.
Well, here’s the response – the presence of the Victoria Memorial is nothing but an acknowledgement of India’s colonial past, under the reign of Victoria. On the other hand, upholding a portrait, in your own words means “honouring public personalities”. Thus, while one memorial exists as a historical documentation, the other exists as an “honour”. It only makes sense to remove Jinnah from a ‘place of honour’, unless of course, you are willing to come out in open and be a Jinnah sympathiser.
I am also left wondering about a lot of the other things you said. For instance, you reiterate your position on “insecurity creeping in on Muslims” in India. In an interview with Times Now, you initially shied away from expressing your intention of blaming this on Modi, saying that ‘the insecurity existed all along’. But when Navika Kumar had asked you why used the phrase “creeping in”, you chose to avoid the real question you were asked, saying things like “English is not my mother tongue… that’s not what I meant…”, followed by no mention of what you actually meant.
It also becomes clear that the phrase of “insecurity within Muslims” is directed at just the Modi administration, when you justify Shashi Tharoor’s “Hindu Pakistan” remark in your interview with Times of India. While I do not find your notion any different from the general politicians who want to manufacture this atmosphere of fear, I am a little confused at your perception of the general Muslim. When you claim Muslims are “insecure”, it becomes clear that you ignore the uplifting of Muslim women that have taken place in recent times.
That brings me to your stance on the Triple Talaq issue, which is also rather flimsy. When asked about your thoughts on its existence, you said: “Triple talaq is a social evil… but if you send the chap (the husband pronouncing talaq thrice) to jail where does the wife/ ex-wife get her daily bread?”
Going by that logic, it is not hard to argue along the following lines – why should we jail a man for committing acts of domestic violence? Why arrest a man for committing any crime in the first place? Because based on what you say, the wife won’t “get her daily bread” if the “chap is sent to jail”, will she?
It is self-explanatory, that such arguments will get us nowhere when trying to abolish a primitive tradition. The underlying principle behind criminalising the practice is to deter those who are patriarchal enough to invoke the norm. When a man pronounces the ‘3 talaqs’, being fully aware of its existence as a “social evil”, he does indeed deserve to face the law, just as a man who demands a dowry would have to. Your sympathy for the presence of the norm, unfortunately, becomes far too evident.
You were then, asked about your thoughts on a highly irresponsible remark by the former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister. Here is what you had to say:
Question: Mehbooba Mufti says that if the BJP attempts to break her party, 1987 will repeat itself, with Salahuddin and Yasin Malik being born again. Do you believe that such forms discourse suits a former CM of a state?
You had to answer whether or not her statement was justified. “Wasn’t she the coalition partner of the other political party? Till yesterday they were partners and like all divorces, this has become acrimonious…”, you began in the faint attempt to diplomatically avoid the question, and still malign the BJP subtly.
You followed that up with the clichéd suggestion, of either “arresting Mufti if she contravened the law” or “respecting her freedom of expression”. I am nobody to tell you this sir, but I’m sure you understand that opinions do not always have to violate the law, in order to be frowned upon.
When Mufti suggests the emergence of new terrorists, that is nothing but an open threat. One does not have to violate the law, while saying such things, in order for its responsible citizens to pull up those who make such nonsensical remarks. And pushing that onto the so-called “other political party” that the PDP was “partners with”, does not take away from the fact that her comment was morally abhorrent, simply because it insinuates the occurrence of militancy in Kashmir. And it is even more unfortunate that you did not call that out when given the chance to, and further chose to put the onus on the government.
While it may not have been your intention, you more often than not, came across as the latter, especially when it boiled down to the controversial issues.
I am just a school-going student who was first introduced to your name when quizzed on my general knowledge some years ago. But I must tell you that, whenever we took your name in our ‘Social Science’ lessons, it would have to do with discussing the phenomenal responsibilities you undertook in the Rajya Sabha and the amount of objectivity you had to display in the debates. But when I see the opinions you consistently uphold, all I see is arguments and assumptions that ring hollow when revisited.
When I write this letter to you, my primary intention is to make clear, my justified discontent with your lack of clarity on the most pressing issues of national interest. And I must make it clear that such is the sentiment of many youngsters.
Leftist propaganda website Scroll recently released a video to talk about the Supreme Court resuming hearing on the Babri Masjid case.
Video uploaded by Scroll
In the video, from the 1:40-minute mark onward, the video talks about the demolishment of Babri Masjid and the series of events that led to it. At around 2 minutes 55 seconds into the video, Scroll talks about how the idol of Lord Ram mysteriously appeared and was laid by a ‘mob’ that ‘laid siege’.
Scroll video depicting mob which laid siege on Babri Masjid.
However, as Twitter user @TrueIndologypointed out the images used in the video are not of a ‘Hindu mob’ that laid siege over the mosque. In fact, it is not even from India. The image, sources from Getty Images, is actually from Rawalpindi, Pakistan.
Stock image from Pakistan used by Scroll to pass off as Hindu mob
After the Babri Masjid demolition, Muslim protestors in Pakistan shouted anti-India slogan after setting a Hindu temple of fire and demolition stonework on 7th December 1992, a day after Babri Masjid demolition on 6th December, 1992. As described in the picture above, at least 11 temples in Pakistan were attacked as retaliation to the demolishment of Babri masjid.
It is rather interesting the lengths Scroll travelled to weave this lie, and it certainly seems like it was no ‘mistake’. It seems like Scroll deliberately cropped the top part of the temple so as to hide the fact that the picture was of a temple being desecrated, and also the bottom clothing of the Pakistani because that outfit is not seen in India.
This is not the first time Scroll has spread lies and exhibited its Hinduphobia. Earlier, it was caught spreading lies about the famous ‘Tundey Kabab’ shop being closed down due to UP government’s crackdown on meat. Following it, Scroll changed the headline and the body of the article, showing how a story could be told in two ways, depending on the narrative that is to be peddled. It also wrote an article on Swami Vivekanand that reeked of Hinduphobia. In fact, once Scroll even had to take down an article that attempted to whitewash barbaric Khilji’s crimes and malign Rajputs.
However, Scroll hasn’t yet taken down the video or clarified their use of the image of Muslim mob in Pakistan destroying Hindu temples as that of a mob laying siege on Babri Masjid.
Congress leader Hussain Dalwai has come out in support of the statement of Asaduddin Owaisi that created a huge controversy recently. Dalwai has stated that what Owaisi is questioning is right and PM Modi should announce that Indian Muslims have the right to join the armed forces.
#WATCH: Congress leader Husain Dalwai supports Asaduddin Owaisi’s statement, says ‘Ye baat Modi ji ko batani chahiye ki Bhartiya Musalman ko bhi haq hai military mein jaane ka.’ pic.twitter.com/sTfTFQoY8I
Asaduddin Owaisi, the President of the All-India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) has stated recently that he wants PM Modi to reveal how many jobs he has given to Muslims in CRPF, CISF, RAF and BSF in the last four years of being in power.
AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi communalises recruitment into the forces, poses direct question to the PM, asking how many Muslims were recruited in the forces in the last 4 years #ForcesAboveReligionpic.twitter.com/3z1aDGT1p5
Not stopping at that, Owaisi had even later defended his statement and asked that the government should provide data and again claimed that the government has not done enough for Muslims in the last four years.
Owaisi’s statement was condemned and criticised by many people, including army veterans.
How many Muslims in BSF, CRPF, ITBP, CISF….that’s what Owaisi has asked @narendramodi. I can answer this. Once you wear the uniform, all other identities become secondary. These forces don’t have any Muslims. Or Hindus. Or Christians. Or Sikhs. They have only INDIANS.
— Major Gaurav Arya (@majorgauravarya) July 17, 2018
There are zero Muslims in Indian Army. ZERO. just like there are zero hindus, Sikhs or Christian in Indian Army. Only Indians serve in Indian Army. Pretty difficult for bigoted idiots to comprehend the ethos
Dalwai is a Congress Rajya Sabha MP from Maharashtra. He gave the statement after being asked whether asking the religious identity of soldiers is disrespectful to the armed forces. It is notable here that Congress leaders have many times used disrespectful words for the armed forces. Earlier Congress leader Akhilesh Pratap Singh had used the word ‘cowards’ for army veterans in a live debate show.
Congress had also questioned the veracity of the surgical strikes and raised questions over the Army’s performance. Congress leaders frequently patronise separatists and blame the armed forces.
The Indian Army has no caste/religion based recruitment process and any Indian citizen meeting the required criteria can join the armed forces. Also, joining the armed forces in India is voluntary, so by citing the under-representation of any community and holding the government responsible for it is not only wrong but it is a deliberate attempt to tarnish the image of the armed forces.
