Media can’t seem to stick to facts : Congress goon and civil servant called ‘BJP leaders’

0

After high octane drama in the national capital yesterday with the Delhi Chief Secretary (CS), Anshu Pratap, accusing AAP MLAs, including Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, of hurling abuses and beating him up, matters escalated quickly after Aam Aadmi Party accused the CS of being a BJP agent.

Soon enough, some media houses started referring to the CS as a BJP leader.

While the story was from the agency feed of PTI, the headline was given by Economic Times.

After being pointed out on social media, Economic Times changed the headline to ‘Delhi babus to boycott all ministerial meetings until Kejriwal apologises for assault on chief secretary’.

Economic Times wasn’t the only publication that addressed someone as BJP leader wrongly. India Today, too, addressed the Congress MLA aide who tried to set a government office on fire, as BJP leader.

So much is the rush of pinning the blame on BJP that India Today even referred to Haris Nalapad, son of Congress leader, who brutally assaulted a man over a trivial argument in a pub, as BJP MLA.

It is amusing to see how media gets away with such blunders and then cries foul on freedom of the press while leaving fact checking to readers. Readers beware.

From Masuka to Communal Violence Bill, the dangers of UPA 3 can be unimaginable

0

In the build-up to the 2019 elections, discussions have taken off on social media on the various possibilities that may arise next year. While the confidence among supporters of BJP and specifically PM Modi is quite high, it is also a fact that the Congress seems to be approaching 2019 with much more focus than what has been seen in the past few years. The role of certain ‘Data Analytics’ companies is being touted as the reason for the increased focus of the Congress top-leadership.

Lord Walrus has an excellent post on the various scenarios that are likely to emerge based on the results of the elections — from an RW point of view. The first of the possibilities he considers — that of an NDA loss — is without a doubt the most damaging result from an RW/Hindu-cause point of view. Lord Walrus also summarizes the effect of such a result very well.

“Not only will they have an ideological opponent in power, but the opponent will consider their [RW] existence as a thorn in the flesh. The ideological opponents will likely use everything at their disposal to hunt and smother the fledgeling RW… Moreover, bringing back UPA3 will certainly bring back sectarian lawmaking with a vengeance… UPA3 will definitely set back the Hindu revival by at least 2 decades, if not more. I am personally afraid that UPA3 will sow the seeds for another partition”

The above conclusions on what is likely to happen got me to wonder if this is just a fear the author has — or perhaps fear mongering to rally Hindu Nationalists? Or is there some genuine basis for such thoughts? What proof exists that justifies the claim that UPA 3 will bring back sectarian lawmaking with a vengeance? How are we so sure Hindu revival will be set back?

I did a little bit of research looking for any “proof” from the past that confirms these fears. And sure enough, I found many. We know a number of laws and policies that UPA1 and UPA2 made, such as the RTE, NCMEI, the creation of the minority affairs ministry, the Sachar Committee, the takeover of more and more temples and so on — that have deepened the communal divide in this country. But what we have perhaps forgotten is the amount of preparatory work done by the same “Idea of India” folks for “UPA3”. If and when UPA3 comes back, many of these work-in-progress items are definitely going to see the light of the day — albeit in some modified or restructured form. And the possibilities that these would-be actions are likely to cause fully justify the fears of a “setback of Hindu revival”.

Converting Education into a Battlefield

Lots have been written about the sectarian #Core1 laws that UPA1 and UPA2 have made. The creation of the NCMEI, the 93rd Constitutional Amendment, the RTE Act, are all ensuring massive damage to the foundation of the Education sector in this country. While the RW folks were/are still in the process of truly understanding the long-term impact of these moves, UPA had already moved on to the next stage — facilitating the conversion of the field of Education into a legal battlefield.

The fact that Education is one of the biggest domains of litigation in this country is actually a severe indictment of the failure of our Education policy since Independence. However, instead of focusing on removing the thorns in this sector that lead to such high litigation, UPA moved towards formal recognition of this unfortunate fact and introduced the “Educational Tribunal Bill” in 2010. The bill, passed in Lok Sabha, has now thankfully lapsed. However, it is extremely likely that the same will be reintroduced in some form or the other.

The bill proposes setting up of National and State level Tribunals that will handle all forms of disputes and litigation in the domain of education. The stated “goal” is the speedy resolution of disputes in the field. However, as we have seen with the National Green Tribunal, such dedicated bodies tend to encourage litigation, especially of the false variety.

The Educational Tribunals will have a mix of Judicial, ‘Expert’ and ‘Administrative’ members — the latter two being drawn from the domain of education. It will be free from the clutches of the “Code of Civil Procedure” and will resort to “Principles of Natural Justice” — in other words — the decisions it will give will purely depend upon the leanings of the Tribunal members. The non-compliance of the orders of this Tribunal will invite a prison sentence of 3 years and fines of lakhs of rupees.

The Act also has its signature “Idea of India” elements — craftily worded sections to exempt minority institutions from its ambit. Section 51 says the following

“Nothing contained in this Act or the rules made thereunder shall apply to any minority institution to the extent to which they are inconsistent with the functions and powers vested upon the National Commission for Minority Educational Institutions”

A quick look at the NCMEI Act shows that it actually has powers to decide pretty much everything that relates to minority educational institutions.

“Functions of Commission. — Notwithstanding anything contained in any other law for the time being in force, the Commission shall — ….

…. enquire, suo moto, or on a petition presented to it by any Minority Educational Institution, or any person on its behalf into complaints regarding deprivation or violation of rights of minorities to establish and administer educational institutions of their choice…..

…. decide all questions relating to the status of any institution as a Minority Educational Institution and declare its status as such”

Therefore, the above section is in effect a blanket exemption to minority institutions.

Formalise Sectarian Funding

A very genuine concern of the #Core team has been the policies of appeasement being practised by all Governments since Independence. Doling out scholarships, loans, infrastructure funding and financial aid based solely on religious considerations is truly anti-#Core but fully ‘Idea of India’ compliant. Along with ideological reasons why this is wrong, the fact remains that such funding is purely unconstitutional.

However, the groundwork has already been done to overcome the objections to these policies. In accordance with the “recommendations” of the Sachar Committee, the UPA1 Government had set up a committee to make recommendations for setting up an “Equal Opportunity Commission” in 2007. This committee came out with a report, and a draft law, that sets up such a Commission.

The stated goals of this Commission are to accord formal recognition to “substantive equality” and eliminate (even) “indirect discrimination”. In real terms, this translates to sanction for sectarian purses. Once “substantive equality” is formally recognized, almost all sectarian purse spending can easily be justified by suitable definitions of “substantive equality”. By its very definition, there cannot be a standard explanation for “substantive” equality. And one can always look for facts/examples to justify a certain sectarian policy.

A ‘Violence Bill’ that’s Communal in Nature

Another favourite area where UPA1 and UPA2 did a lot of preparatory work has been the area of “communal violence”. In 2005, UPA1 introduced a communal violence bill. In 2011, under the guidance of the NAC, UPA2 introduced a revised draft of the same. Although the bill had to be dropped in 2014, grounds for its withdrawal were primarily due to the concerns about overlap with powers of the State government. However, the truly worrying parts of the bill are not related to who exercises control — but the starkly communal and draconian provisions it had.

  • In the 2005 version of the bill, any “group” that has become a victim of communal attacks could seek redressal. However, in 2011, a new definition of the “group” which is protected, was introduced.

“group means a religious or linguistic minority, in any State in the Union of India, or Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes within the meaning of clauses (24) and (25) of Article 366 of the Constitution of India”

  • Thus only minorities and SCs/STs could be “victims” and the perpetrators of communal violence would always be the majority, which is Hindus.
  • The definition of “offences” itself was so wide — any sort of crime could be brought under the ambit of this Act.

“Continuous unlawful activity of a widespread or systematic nature knowingly directed against a group or part thereof’ means the course of conduct involving the multiple or mass commission of acts referred to in this section, whether spontaneously or planned, whether over a short or prolonged period or in one place or a number of places simultaneously or otherwise, against any group or part thereof”

  • About 35 offences under the IPC were brought under dual ambit — by making it also relevant to this Communal Violence Bill. The only additional criterion being it has to be committed multiple (read — more than once) times against a minority.
  • The Act turned many judicial concepts upside down. It mandates that every accused be first assumed guilty — with the onus of proving otherwise on the accused.

“Whenever an offence of organized communal and targeted violence is committed and it is shown that a hostile environment against a group exists or the offence of hate propaganda under section 8 was committed against a group, it shall be presumed, unless the contrary is proved, that the said offence was knowingly directed against persons belonging to the group by virtue of their membership of the group”

  • The Act allows for the property of the accused to be attached even during the pendency of the trial!

“Where the charge has been framed in relation to an offence under this Act, the Designated Judge may direct that the property of the accused person be attached during the pendency of the trial and until conviction or acquittal, as the case may be”

In other words, the punishment for an accused starts even before he/she is convicted of any offence!

  • The body created to supervise the implementation of this Act — the National and State ‘Authority for Communal Harmony, Justice and Reparation” — will always have a majority of members belonging to the “group” (as described above). In other words, an organisation consisting of a majority of members of the victim group will oversee the trial and punishment of the group of accused who belong to a different community.

The list of such blatantly sectarian provisions in this Act goes on. The few listed above should give a very good idea about the potential damage it can cause.

Superstition — a curse that affects only Hindus!

The Karnataka Government recently passed an “anti-superstition” bill. A cursory look at the “Schedule” in the bill that lists offences punishable under the Act make it clear that only Hindu practices are under the radar.

Made snana and walking over coals have already come under the reigns of this Act. It goes without saying that the list of such “superstitious” practices covered in the Act will only increase in the days to come.

A national level law that acts as the parent law for each State to emulate is most likely to happen if UPA3 comes back. Given the continuous activism being performed by sympathetic lawyers and NGOs in the various courts in the past few years — to take out many Hindu rituals and customs — from Jallikattu to Dahi handi to Deepavali crackers — the possibility of a central law to ban all of them — the exact opposite of #Core5 — is more than certain. And it is not like they have stopped trying even when they are out of power. Most of the cases that targeted Hindu customs recently had wily lawyers from the Congress party fighting it. And these are not just any lawyers, but senior most lawyers who are also Congress leaders. Now, if they can create such damage when out of power, one wonders the extent to which they would go to if they do return to power.

Masuka — leeway in disguise?

While there have most certainly been incidents of violence by many people in the garb of protecting cattle and apprehending cattle thieves — the issue of rampant theft of cattle in itself is a clear and present problem in India today. However, the ‘Idea of India’ brigade has paid unfair and disproportionate attention to the violence caused by the mindless few and ignored the genuine problems of the cattle loving majority. At the height of the artificially pumped up noise about “lynching” in the country, #IOI warriors came up with draft legislation that punishes such crimes. By casting a wide net to cover offences under such Acts, including defining victims as those who have suffered even ‘mental and psychological harm’ (things that are next to impossible to disprove) the goal is to make it extremely tough to even protect oneself from actual crimes in these scenarios.

Read this excellent critique to understand why such laws are anti-pattern and will have the reverse effect of what it actually claims to help prevent.

Conclusion

The concerns of increased sectarian lawmaking and thereby fuelling of communal differences are real. While we may be stuck in a swamp right now — with no easy way to get ourselves out of it — Hindu RW need to realise the effect of a UPA return in 2019.

“apni pair pe khulaadi maarna” – would be the best way to describe it.

Ayodhya’s new railway station to be built as a replica of Bhavya Ram Mandir

0

Manoj Sinha the Minister of State for Railways on Tuesday announced that the rail ministry will submit a proposal to the union cabinet for the reconstruction of Ayodhya railway station as a replica of Ram Mandir. If approved, the railway station would be constructed in line with the Ram Mandir design which was proposed by the VHP in the late 1980s.

This announcement was made by the minister after laying a foundation stone for projects worth more than Rs 200 crores in the city, which includes an allocation of Rs 80 crores for the railway station’s reconstruction. The rest Rs 120 crores would be spent towards shifting the railways’ goods yard in Ayodhya. The completion date for both these projects has been marked at 2021.

As per Sinha, the railway station would have state of the art facilities, which is in line with the government’s commitment to connect Ayodhya to the whole country so that Ram devotees around the country can visit the place.

In line with this commitment, about Rs. 1,116 crores are being spent for track doubling and electrification of the Faizabad-Barabanki route, which is expected to be completed by 2022.

As per BJP MP Vinay Katiyar who was also present at the foundation laying ceremony, Ayodhya railway station’s development is been discussed since the time when Atal Bihari Vajpayee was the Prime Minister. He further claimed that going by things, when the construction of the railway station ends, the construction of the Mandir at Lord Ram’s Janmabhoomi would begin.

As per local reports [1][2], these are the proposed design imaged for the Ram Mandir styled railway station:

The local reports also claimed that the station would be equipped with facilities like Wi-Fi, CCTV cameras and spacious parking. They also quoted Manoj Sinha as saying that the Railway Ministry is going to give Ayodhya such a railway station which when seen by devotees and travellers, would make them proud about visiting Lord Ram’s city.

AAP MLA arrested and advisor to Kejriwal detained for questioning in the Chief Secretary assault case

0

The Delhi police on Tuesday night had arrested AAP’s MLA Prakash Jarwal from his residence in Deoli. Yesterday the Delhi Chief Secretary Anshu Prakash had registered an FIR against AAP leaders Amanullah Khan and others for allegedly assaulting him in the presence of Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal.

According to reports, earlier in the day, Prakash Jarwal and Ajay Dutt, another AAP MLA from Ambedkarnagar had lodged complaints against the Delhi Chief Secretary for casteist remarks. Incidentally, the Chief Secretary in his complaint had also mentioned that he was threatened with false cases specifically under the atrocities act by AAP MLAs in the presence of Arvind Kejriwal. Anshu Prakash had claimed in his complaint letter that he was summoned to the Delhi CM’s residence at the middle of the night and was asked why there were delays in clearing the advertisements marking the three year anniversary of the AAP government in Delhi. The chief secretary had made grave allegations that he was abused and assaulted by Amanatullah Khan and other MLAs.

The Advisor to the Chief Minister has also been detained and the news was, that if he is found guilty of conspiracy, he will be arrested.

Amusingly, in a bid to play the victim, AAP leaders have condemned the arrest of Prakash Jarwal and tweeted that he was very recently married. It is thus telling, that instead of condemning the assault on a public servant, the ones who wanted to “change the way politics is done” are today indulging in the worst form of thuggery and abuse of power.

Amanatullah Khan is absconding. There are rumours in social media that he has escaped Delhi in fear of arrest.

However, this is not the first time that assault allegations have surfaced against the AAP MLA Jarwal. Last year he was booked for allegedly molesting a 53-year-old woman and threatening her family with violence.

Delhi is now facing a constitutional crisis. IAS Association has strongly condemned this attack:

The Association has declared that they will continue their duty but they have demanded that the culprits involved in assaulting the chief secretary should be arrested and strong action be taken against them.

Read Gujarat HC’s observations while restoring gag order against ‘The Wire’ in the Jay Shah case

0

On 8th October last year, leftist propaganda website, ‘The Wire’ had published an article alleging impropriety in business dealings, of the BJP President’s son Jay Shah. Their article, which was riddled with glaring loopholes and inaccuracy, was decimated by us. Subsequently, The Wire had selectively altered its story, but the shaky ground on which the story stood remained thus.

On October 12th, in response to the shoddy story, Jay Shah had slapped ‘The Wire’ with a Rs. 100 crore defamation case. What followed was, of course, the usual rhetoric of press freedom being muzzled and how the BJP, which was a “fascist regime” wanted to keep the “truth” under wraps. The leftists seem to use the word “truth” fast and loose since what was published in ‘The Wire’ could be called a shaky hitjob which was executed in the worst, and the most infantile manner.

On 12th October itself, BK Dasondi, 4th Additional Senior Civil Judge, Ahmedabad Rural, had passed an ex parte order preventing The Wire from publishing anything, in any form, related to the article dated October 8.

‘The Wire’ had approached the High Court thereafter, appealing against the gag order, and while throwing their appeal out, the High Court had made some scathing comments. The High Court also essentially told team Wire, that if they wanted to appeal against the ex parte injunction, they should have approached the Trial Court that passed it and not the Hight Court.

When team Wire approached the Trial Court subsequently, the gag order, in essence, was squashed with the caveat that the portal couldn’t publish anything that dragged in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s name into the entire controversy.

After the Trial Court order, Jay Shah approached the High Court appealing against the trial court order that vacated the injunction and the High Court had reserved its verdict for 19th January 2018.

The High Court found that there was no reason for the Trial Court to dilute its previous order granting the injunction to Jay Shah and effectively gagging ‘The Wire’ from publishing anything related to the matter.

In the course of the verdict, however, Gujarat High Court made some interesting observations. Justice Upadhyay went on to consider the three prerequisites for granting an injunction: a prima facie case, the balance of convenience, and irreparable loss caused to one of the parties.

Prima Facie case

In Paragraph 6.5 of the judgement, the High Court observed that the Trial Court had found that the plaintiff (Jay Shah) does have a prima facie case even before hearing the defendants and hence had granted the injunction. The Trial Court, even after hearing the defendants (team Wire) had maintained that Jay Shah had a prima facie case, and thus, the High Court also held that a prima facie case exists.

In lay terms, ‘prima facie’ basically means ‘at first sight’. In this case, the ‘burden of proof’ lies on Jay Shah, which is to say, it is he who has to prove that The Wire defamed him with their article. When the Court says that Jay Shah has a ‘prima facie’ case, it means that the case presented by Jay Shah’s counsel is sufficient for the court not to dismiss the case and for it to proceed to trial.

Balance of convenience and irreparable loss to one of the parties

For both these prerequisites, the High Court first observed (in Para 6.6) that the Trial Court had held in favour of the plaintiff.

In lay terms, ‘Balance of convenience’ means that the court has to examine the balance of comparative loss caused to both parties in the case of not passing the order. ‘Balance of convenience’ in favour of the plaintiff (Jay Shah) would mean that Jay Shah would suffer losses that would far exceed the loss suffered by team Wire if the injunction (gag order) was not passed.

The irreparable loss is, of course, a self-explanatory term that would mean that the High Court observed that if team Wire was allowed to write about Jay Shah, and if the injunction wasn’t granted, Jay Shah would suffer losses that would be irreparable.

Interestingly, the High Court then concurred with the Trial Court’s observations that team Wire has failed to prove that there was any sort of nexus of the Prime Minister with the increase in the business of the Jay Shah’s company. More interestingly, the High Court agreed with the observation that team Wire has failed to prove that “following the election of Narendra Modi as Prime Minister, the plaintiff (Jay Shah) has flourished”. It would be worthy to note, that this was mostly the entire premise of ‘The Wire’s’ article authored by Rohini Singh.

The High Court observed that considering the above observations, the Trial Court was right in granting injunction to Jay Shah initially, but “the Trial Court fell in error by restricting the relief in favour of the plaintiff (Jay Shah) to the limited extent of ‘referring to the name of Hon’ble the Prime Minister”.

Repeating the observations of the Trial Court, the High Court observed that the initial restraining order dated 12.10.2017 was not required to be diluted by the trial court and the said gag order needs to be restored.

The court thus deleted the portion of the diluted injunction that read “…narrating the lines or words, in the manner of “since Narendra Modi became Prime Minister / following the election of Narendra Modi as Prime Minister”…” effectively restoring the original gag order that the Trial Court has diluted.

Siddharth Varadarajan, the Founding Editor of ‘The Wire’ took to Twitter to drum up the same old victim card, question the wisdom of the court, and declare that they will challenge the High Court’s order in the Supreme Court.

It is perhaps safe to presume that Varadarajan doesn’t expect his readers to actually go through the HC verdict that seems clear on why the injunction has been granted. Three prerequisites, that are needed to be fulfilled by law, were deemed fulfilled, and hence the injunction was granted. Varadarajan also fails to inform his readers that the Trial Court, that had diluted the initial gag order had also concluded that ‘The Wire’ had failed to establish that after Narendra Modi became the Prime Minister, Jay Shah’s fortunes had risen, which was basically the entire premise of the article in question. Varadarajan, perhaps maliciously, doesn’t inform his readers, that while he had celebrated the Trial Court verdict, the Trial Court too had concluded that the three prerequisites; Prima facie case, balance of convenience, and irreparable loss, were in favour of Jay Shah and it is only the dilution of the injunction that has been reversed.

While ‘The Wire’ resorts to deceit as a matter of habit, the Court, in its wisdom has retrained the portal from indulging in their usual ad hominem platitudes, at least in the Jay Shah matter.

Clash erupts between Congress and JD(S) workers in Karnataka over an invitation dispute

0

A clash erupted between Congress and JD(S) workers in the village of Gejjagalli which falls under the Chamundeshwari assembly constituency of Karnataka. This village is situated near Mysore.

As per local reports, Yathindra the son of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah was visiting the village on Sunday to perform a Puja to mark the beginning of developmental projects in the region.

These developmental works worth Rs 15 lakhs are supposed to focus on the drainage and roads of the village. While the puja was ongoing, JD(S) activists including a Gram Panchayat member named Lokesh arrived at the scene and demanded why local representatives weren’t invited to the auspicious occasion.

Siddaramaiah’s son who is trying to gain a foothold in politics tried to speak with them but by then an altercation had broken out between the two sides. This heated argument soon upgraded itself to a clash which resulted in injuries to Lokesh. The police soon intervened and brought the situation under control.

The JD(S) workers have alleged that Lokesh was assaulted by the police on the instructions of K. Marigowda who is considered a close confidant of the Chief Minister. They also raised questions as to why did Yathindra perform the puja when the village in question comes under a JD(S) MLAs constituency.

The JD(S) MLA of the constituency G.T. Devegowda, too made his share of allegations by claiming that he had informed to police about unauthorised persons inaugurating or laying foundation stones in various constituencies including Chamundeshwari. Despite this, the police allegedly felicitated the foundation laying ceremony in Gejjagalli village and provided protection to those not connected to the government.

The JD(S) members later sought the suspension of police officers who assaulted Lokesh and also staged a protest in front of local SP’s office.

Following the incident, some might say that the Congress’ Mysore establishment is giving a tough competition to its Bengaluru counterparts when it comes to giving the party a bad name.

It was reported that Mohammed Haris Nalapad the son of Congress MLA NA Haris was accused of brutally assaulting a person in a high-end Bengaluru pub because he allegedly wasn’t sitting properly. The accused son himself is a Congress leader and was recently elected as the general secretary of Youth Congress in Bengaluru city.

The drama though didn’t stop here and the accused was given a rousing reception when he surrendered to a city police station. It later also emerged that a woman alleged that she too was assaulted by Mohammed Nalapad and his supporters. She also alleged that the local police refused to register a case and nobody in politics or media had tried to secure justice for her.

‘I was abused and assaulted in front of Kejriwal’, Delhi Chief Secretary says in police complaint

0

Delhi is now facing a constitutional crisis as the people’s representatives themselves have been accused of assaulting a civil servant in the presence of the Chief Minister in his residence at a midnight meeting held today. The AAP has denied these allegations and accused the Chief Secretary of using bad language against elected representatives in its official statement.

The Home Minister Rajnath Singh has said that he was deeply pained by the events and remarked that civil servants must be allowed to work in dignity and without fear.

The BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra has also described the events as a constitutional crisis in the state. He also said that AAP and anarchy had become synonymous. The BJP has also been protesting outside the Delhi CM’s residence against the alleged rogue behaviour of its MLAs.

Chief Secretary’s letter reveals startling accusations against AAP MLAs

The chief secretary’s complaint that described the events that occurred at CM’s residence has brought startling accusations against AAP MLAs.

The letter claims that the CM and AAP asked the Chief Secretary as to why there were delays in releasing advertisements commemorating the completion of three years of AAP. When the civil servant said that the advertisements had to comply with Supreme Court directions, he was ‘accused’ of not doing enough for ‘publicity of the government’. After this, he was threatened with false cases against him under SC/ST act and physically assaulted by MLA Amanatullah Khan and another MLA who he claimed that he could identify. He has also claimed that he was assaulted in the presence of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

The Chief Secretary also clarified that he did not retaliate to provocations and left the Delhi CM’s residence with great difficulty. He requested the DCP North to take actions against the MLAs for assault and intimidation with a motive to deter him from discharging his duties and forcing him to follow their unlawful directions. The complete letter can be read below :

Delhi Chief Secretary police complaint
AAP accuses Chief Secretary of not answering questions on lapses in Aadhar usage in ration shops

The AAP has accused the Chief Secretary of not answering questions on faulty implementation of Aadhar. According to AAP, the Chief Secretary had said that he was not accountable to MLAs but only to the Lt Governor of Delhi.

It also declared that Aadhar would not be mandatory for distribution of rations at a press conference held by Manish Sisodia. The decision was taken at a ‘cabinet meeting’ according to reports.

Thus there is a huge difference in the story of AAP and the Chief Secretary regarding the topic discussed at the CM’s residence. Investigations into the matter might reveal the true sequence of events at the Delhi CM’s residence around midnight.

When the left exposed its hypocrisy by attacking PM Modi’s tweet on Shivaji Jayanti

0

Monday 19th February marked the 369th Birth Anniversary of Hindu emperor Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, and as a result, tribute poured in from various sections of the Indian political sphere, which included Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The PM decided to give a personal touch to his wishes by tweeting out a 1.35-minute video:

The video contained pictures and small clips of PM Modi paying to tribute to the legendary king, along with an accompanying audio containing rapturous chants of “Jai Bhawani Jai Shivaji” and a voice over of the Prime Minister’s speeches about Shivaji.

The gesture was enthusiastically welcomed by Twitter users as signified by more than 8,271 retweets and 35,690 favourites garnered by the tweet. It though incidentally also managed to generate criticism among a section of what some might say a predominantly leftist twitter base:

As uncovered by minute analysis by the aforementioned twitter users, one of the embedded pictures in PM Modi’s video supposedly showed him sharing the stage with Sambhaji Bhide:

Modi sharing the stage with Sambhaji Bhide

Sambhaji Bhide, who is the founder of Shiv Pratishthan Hindustan, has incidentally been named as an accused in the Bhima-Koregaon violence which broke out, in the backdrop of celebrations to mark a British victory over Peshwas. As reported, Bhide was accused of desecrating a Dalit icon’s samadhi along with BJP leader Milind Ekbote.

This became the focal point of the attack against the PM, about how could he share a picture of his sharing a stage with Bhide when the latter is accused of insulting Dalit icons. But things aren’t as simple as they look.

Even though accusations were levelled against Bhide, a few days later it was reported that the police had failed to find any evidence against him, regardless of which media housed decided to “indict” him.

Come February, the police had managed to collect sufficient proof against Ekbote to supposedly warrant his arrest, but were nowhere close to nailing Bhide as the police couldn’t find anything linking him to the violence. Subsequently, an arrest warrant was issued against Ekbote but nothing was mentioned regarding any evidence against Bhide or his status as an accused.

Consequently, based on the above facts, no evidence seems to have been uncovered against Bhide till date, which might turn this episode into becoming a classic case of the left’s hypocrisy.

The leftist establishment as seen in the past has been very “kind and considerate” towards those accused of crimes including serious ones like sexual offences. This “kindness” is also seen in the form of being silent when one of their own like Tarun Tejpal is accused of sexual assaults.

The left ecosystem is further seen showering its benevolence on sexual offenders by outright mainstreaming them, via various measures like lit-fest invitations. Things are so degenerate that it’s an open secret how sexual predators camouflage and waltz around as ‘liberals’.

So why does the same ecosystem not have enough consideration for someone like Bhide who has neither been arrested nor has any clinching evidence been uncovered against him? Why did no one from the left try to shield him when he and the Prime Minister were attacked via the latter’s tweet.

Is it merely because of the saffron identity that he isn’t afforded the same standards which are set for the members of the cosy club? And does the left not realise that it is glaringly exposing its hypocrisy by choosing to make someone look more innocent or guilty based its convenience.

Controversy over Imran Khan’s third wedding not being in accordance with Islamic rules

0

Imran Khan, a Pakistani politician and former Pakistani cricketer, who recently got married for the third time, to faith healer Bushra Maneka, has found himself in middle of controversy. As reported by Geo TV, the wedding took place in the first week of January and not on 18th February as reported in media.

The report, which was originally published on 6th January, broke the news of Khan’s third marriage, which Khan dismissed as Sharif family’s vendetta against him.

He did ask his supporters and well wishers to pray that he finds his personal happiness which, except for a few years, he has been deprived of.

In little over a month of the above denial, Khan solemnised his marriage with Bushra, a mother of five and former wife of a government servant. According to the Geo TV report, Bushra’s friend has claimed that the wedding couldn’t have taken place in January since Bushra’s iddat period (the period of waiting for a woman must observe after death of her spouse or divorce, during which she may not marry another man), which is 90 days in Pakistan, got over on 14th February.

Geo TV claims that while the iddat period got over on 14th February, Khan had proposed to Bushra back in January, i.e. when she was still observing the iddat period, which is not allowed as per Islam. However, as per some Islamic school of thoughts, the proposal during iddat period is prohibited only when the woman is a widow, not a divorcee.

Jang/Geo TV group has been at loggerheads with Imran Khan of PTI for some time now. In January this year, the group sent a legal notice to Khan demanding he issues an unconditional public apology and pay Rs. 1 billion in ‘token’ damages for making allegedly defamatory statements against Jang/Geo Group, its CEO and Editor in Chief since last four years.

No, other states aren’t ‘funding’ loan waivers for Uttar Pradesh farmers as claimed by Rahul Gandhi’s Data Analytics Chief

At a time when the Prime Minister is working towards uniting the various castes, creeds and communities it is indeed tragic to see tensions being spread by wily politicians with the held of fabrications, lies and deceit. It is also my observation that the so-called left liberals, who constantly accuse the BJP and RSS of fanning caste and regional tensions, are the first to mention a particular persons origin or region to divide us Indians, especially when it suits their narrative.

One such old article written by Praveen Chakravarty in June 2017 caught my attention. Coincidentally this same person is now heading the “big data analytics” division for the Congress party as informed by Mr Rahul Gandhi himself.

In this “data backed” study, to summarize, the author claims that Uttar Pradesh shall be funding loan waivers through the grants it receives from the devolution to states from the Central Government and thus it is the people from four major states (Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and Gujarat) who are contributing maximum to central tax revenue shall be funding this loan waiver.

Without commenting on the economics of loan waivers, I wish to state how wrong this particular claim is. This is far from the truth. For this one needs to look at the budget documents provided for by the Uttar Pradesh Government. Which can be accessed here.

Total size of the loan waiver: Approx 36,000 Crores

The total revenue of the state of Uttar Pradesh on its own is Rs. 3,19,397.43 crores as can be seen from the Budget Summary in point 1.

The total surplus after deducting all expenses according to the Budget summary (point 13) is Rs. 12,278.80 crores

The reduction in Power Sector Allocation according to the Budget Document (Page 36) is Rs. 17,728 crores.

The total funding for waivers has been achieved by :

1. Reduction in allocation to power sector from 34,602 Cr to 17,728 cr and

2. By attempting to achieve higher revenues from earlier budgeted ones. Earlier estimates had targeted revenue of 2.69 Lac cr which now was estimated to be 3.19 Lac crores.

From the above its clear that Uttar Pradesh Government is funding its own loan waiver and it is not being funded by some farmers from Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu or Gujarat.

The fact that the explanation is so simple, the data so easily available and the analysis to elementary brings us to a larger question. Why are people cherry-picking data and peddling unfounded analysis? Why are people creating such issues? I leave it to readers to understand and question such things. We shall achieve bigger things when central government and the states work together to bring a new India for Indians. Today we need reasons to be one and not reasons which divide us. New India can and should be built on collective efforts of every state and its constituents.

But perhaps the greatest irony of it all, is that the man who seemingly failed at interpreting such basic data, has been employed by Rahul Gandhi as the chief of “big data analytics”. I believe we can only wish Rahul Gandhi the best and chuckle in private.
