Big narcotics haul in Assam’s Karbi Anglong: Morphine, Heroin worth over Rs 11 crore recovered

The police seized drugs worth more than Rs 11 crore in two separate operations conducted in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district on Monday, 17th November. One person was taken into custody in this connection.

In the first operation, the police team intercepted a vehicle at Dillai Tiniali and recovered 1.959 kilograms of morphine valued at around Rs 11.19 crore. The person carrying the consignment was arrested on the spot. In another operation conducted around the same time at Lahorijan Naka Point, police found 414 grams of heroin hidden in a vehicle.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shared the news on X, praising the quick action by the police. In his post, he wrote that Assam Police had “flipped the script” and turned the “drug dreams to dust,” while appreciating their continuous efforts to stop drug smuggling in the state.

According to district police, both recoveries were made as part of their continuing crackdown on narcotics trafficking through key transit routes passing through Karbi Anglong. The seized drugs and the arrested person have been taken into custody, and further investigation is underway to trace others connected to the drug network.

The CM further stated that the state police have achieved excellent results in the war against drugs, and this operation is indicative of the stern stance of the government towards a drug-free Assam. Karbi Anglong district, with its strategic transportation routes, remains one of the priority locations for anti-narcotics operations as authorities strive to end cross-border smuggling activities within the state borders.
