Tension erupted in Bihar’s Lakhisarai district on Thursday (6th November), the polling day for first phase of assembly elections, after unidentified people hurled stones, cow dung, and slippers at the convoy of Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha. The incident took place when Sinha, who is contesting from the Lakhisarai seat in the ongoing Bihar Assembly elections, was on his way to Khoriari village.
Following the attack, the BJP accused the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) of orchestrating the incident. Sinha, a three-time MLA and senior BJP leader, said that the attackers were RJD supporters trying to prevent him from visiting the area.
“These are the goons of RJD. Satta mein aa rahi hai NDA isliye inke chhati pe bulldozer chalega. The goons are not letting me visit the village. Vijay Sinha is going to win… They turned away my polling agent and did not let him vote… Look at their hooliganism… This is 404 and 405 booth numbers of Khoriari village,” Sinha told ANI.

Sinha said that a group of around a hundred people surrounded him when he went to complain to local authorities about a polling agent not being allowed to sit at a booth. “The polling agent was not allowed to sit. I complained to the SP about it. Soon after, I was surrounded. Slippers, stones and even cow dung were thrown at me,” Sinha told reporters.
Videos from the scene showed a group of protesters chanting “Vijay Sinha Murdabad” as they gathered around the deputy CM’s vehicle, blocking its movement and demanding he turn back.

Angered by the incident, Sinha demanded the deployment of central security forces, accusing the local police of being “cowardly and weak.” He also announced that he would sit on a protest in Khoriari village. However, local police officials said the chaos was the result of a protest by villagers and that the situation was now under control.
An EC official stated that CEC Gyanesh Kumar has requested the DGP to take immediate action. “No one will be allowed to disturb law and order during the elections,” he said.
Polling for the first phase of the Bihar Assembly elections is underway in 121 constituencies, with a voter turnout of around 42.3% recorded by 1 p.m. The phase will decide the fate of several key leaders, including RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav and Tej Pratap Yadav, and Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary.
