A complaint has been filed with the Mumbai Police against lawyer Navneet, an OCI card (Overseas Citizen of India card) holding German citizen, senior advocate Mihir Desai, Suryakant Waghmore, serving as a professor at IIT Bombay’s Humanities Department, students Huma Namal, Amarkant Thakur and others under relevant sections of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA), the National Security Act (NSA) and the Maharashtra Special Public Security Act. The disclosure has been made by Legal Rights Observatory (LRO) regarding the IIT Bombay student Sahil Wakode suicide case.
The complaint has been registered “for spreading fake news aimed at fueling caste-based riots, provocative social media posts to trigger violence and create social unrest and conspiracy to divide society on caste lines.” The social media account stated that Desai is behind the HRLN-SLIC NGO, “which is funded by the German Catholic Church NGO Miserior, which had legally defended 2020 Delhi Riot accused, including rioters who killed Intelligence Bureau officer Ankit Sharma.”
LRO stated that Navneet works at Desai’s chamber. She was at the hospital where the parents and relatives of Wakode were present, and she was inciting the family to file a formal complaint under the Atrocities Act against Professor Suryanarayana Doolla.

Notably, Mumbai Police sources revealed that the Mumbai Crime Branch’s preliminary inquiry has not yet turned up any hard evidence against Professor Suryanarayana Doolla in the abetment-to-suicide accusations. The authorities are examining several aspects of the case. The sources also mentioned that authorities have not discovered any material or eyewitnesses who can verify or substantiate claims regarding casteist slurs hurled at the deceased, who was a second-year B-tech student. The charges were made by his family.
The professor’s description of the occurrence inside the examination room, which includes the assertion about using a cell phone, is also supported by the CCTV footage. According to the authorities, Wakode appears to be staring down at something suspiciously, after which he was asked to depart from the room.
Doolla then led him to a separate room where another professor and the department director were present. Wakode was also recorded leaving and then returning to his room in the campus dorm by additional CCTV cameras positioned throughout the facility. The three professors have been questioned, and their statements have also been recorded.
