On Sunday, 31st May, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta attended a community listening session of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Mann Ki Baat programme in Malviya Nagar and distributed bicycles to 15 meritorious girls from economically weaker families to encourage education and women’s empowerment.
The programme, called ‘Viksit Malviya Nagar Sankalp Samaroh’, was organised at the NCUI Auditorium on Sri Aurobindo Marg. The event was attended by New Delhi MP Bansuri Swaraj, Malviya Nagar MLA Satish Upadhyay, residents, students and social workers.
The bicycles were provided through the Uma Niranjan Foundation. While interacting with the students, CM Rekha Gupta said education is the right of every girl and financial problems should never become a reason for anyone to stop studying.
“Every girl has the right to education. Self-reliance increases confidence, and education gives strength to move forward in life,” she said.
She also assured that the Delhi Government is working to ensure that girls do not face social or economic hurdles in continuing their studies. Gupta encouraged the students to focus on education and work hard to achieve their goals.
During the event, the Chief Minister also placed water pots for birds and appealed to people to keep water for birds and animals outside their homes and in public places during the summer season.
“We should all come forward to help birds and animals during extreme heat. It is our social responsibility to care for every living being,” she said.
Gupta also inaugurated an exhibition displaying development projects and welfare works being carried out in the Malviya Nagar Assembly constituency. She reviewed details of infrastructure and civic projects and said public participation was important for building a developed Delhi.
She added that the government is focusing on improving education, healthcare, sports, environment, and infrastructure as part of its vision for a “Viksit Delhi.”
