A chilling incident has come to light in the national capital, where the semi-decomposed body of a 16-year-old girl, who was stabbed to death after being gang-raped, was found. The body was reportedly found hidden beneath leaves in a field in Swaroop Nagar in outer north Delhi on September 13, 2026, as confirmed by the police on Thursday (September 17, 2026).
The police arrested four individuals, including three minors, in connection with the crime on Wednesday (September 16, 2026). Two knives used by the culprits, some clothes, and a tempo, in which they travelled with the victim, were also recovered and seized by the police based on information provided by them. A case has been registered under the provisions of the POCSO Act and the BNS.
Body eaten by stray dogs
As per reports, the body of the victim was found in such a bad condition that the forensic experts struggled to ascertain her gender. Parts of her body were eaten by stray dogs, and one of her hands was found lying separated on the field. There were multiple stab wounds on her body, revealing the brutality she was subjected to.
According to the police, the family of the girl did not report her missing, and her disappearance and death came to light only after her body was found on September 13. The victim’s family told the police that it was usual for her to leave home and return after days; that’s why they did not raise an alarm when she disappeared on September 10. The girl had reportedly dropped out of school and had been looking for work to help support her family.
One minor accused was known to the victim
Police said that one of the accused, a 17-year-old, was known to the victim. She had gone to meet him in the evening on September 10. The police said that the accused, who was drunk, raped her. He then called his friends, who were also under the influence of alcohol. All of them gang-raped the victim and then took her to a field and brutally stabbed her to death early on September 11. They hid her body using leaves and mud and fled in a tempo.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer North district) Shobhit Saksena said an investigation is underway to establish the complete sequence of events, ascertain the individual role of each apprehended person, verify all available forensic and technical evidence, and examine the involvement of any other person in the offence. “The recovered exhibits have been preserved for forensic examination, and necessary legal action will be taken accordingly,” DCP Saksena said.
Over 50 CCTVs examined by police to nab the accused
A team of police led by Additional DCP (Outer North) Lokeshwaran R and Assistant Commissioner of Police Ravinder Ahlawat is investigating the case. They questioned the locals regarding the disappearance of the girl and found that she was not seen by anyone on September 12 and 13.
The police examined over 50 CCTV cameras to spot any clues about her disappearance and subsequent gang-rape and murder. The victim was not visible in any CCTV footage; however, the police spotted suspicious movement of a tempo near the field around the time of the incident. The CCTV footage showed four boys inside the tempo. The police located the tempo in Khadda Colony and questioned its driver, who revealed that his 17-year-old brother often took it. The tempo driver’s interrogation helped the police identify and arrest the accused.
“On the basis of the developed leads, a night-long search operation was conducted during the intervening night of Tuesday-Wednesday. The tempo was traced in Khadda Colony, Swaroop Nagar. Its driver was identified and questioned. Further investigation led to the apprehension of four persons,” DCP Saksena said.
