The recent success of Bollywood spy thriller Dhurandhar has reportedly caused concern within D-Company, the underworld network run by Dawood Ibrahim from Pakistan. Sources quoted by news agencies have said the gang has started activating its ground network in Mumbai, even as security agencies are closely monitoring its activities.
The film’s character sparks a reaction
According to reports, one of the reasons behind the gang’s sudden activity is the portrayal of a character named Bade Saheb in the two-part Ranveer Singh-starrer. The character is shown on his deathbed and bears a strong resemblance to Dawood Ibrahim. Sources said this has created pressure within D-Company to convince people that Dawood is still alive.
Recruitment linked to a new conspiracy
As part of a fresh terror conspiracy, the gang’s first task was to recruit new members. Sources said the responsibility for finding recruits was given to the Shakeel gang. Once selected, the recruits were to receive training and weapons through Pakistan’s ISI.
Investigators said the young men were picked from different areas of Mumbai but were not informed about the actual purpose of the operation. Instead, they were reportedly influenced by anger surrounding a bulldozer action against an illegal mosque in Bandra Garib Nagar.
Munna Jhingada was assigned a key role
The reports further revealed that shooter Munna Jhingada was assigned the job of carrying out the planned terror operation. Agencies suspect that the network was preparing either a major attack or a strike on an influential person in India.
Delhi police probe exposes links
The developments come shortly after Delhi Police foiled a terror plot and uncovered links between Pakistan’s ISI and the Mumbai underworld. The findings have strengthened concerns about cooperation between the two networks.
Security agencies also believe the latest moves by D-Company are linked to its declining influence in the underworld and extortion racket. Sources said the gang is trying to regain attention and rebuild its image through high-profile activities.
Officials said that Pakistan has continued to provide shelter for such terror plans. However, timely arrests and intelligence-based operations by Indian agencies have repeatedly disrupted these efforts before they could be carried out.
