‘Rahul Gandhi should be officially declared mad’, says Himanta Biswa Sarma, urges voters to ‘defeat Osamas in the land of Ram’

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma made a series of fiery speeches during his campaign trail in Bihar, attacking Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, RJD candidate Osama Shahab, and other opposition leaders. Addressing several rallies, Sarma mixed sharp political criticism with religious and cultural references, urging voters to support the BJP, JD(U), and the NDA alliance.

“Osama Must Be Eliminated,” Says Sarma in Siwan

At a rally in Siwan’s Raghunathpur on Tuesday, 4th November, Sarma said that everyone like Osama must be defeated across the country. Without directly naming RJD candidate Osama Shahab, he compared him to Pakistan’s Osama bin Laden and said such people should not be allowed to rise in Indian politics.

“This country is the land of Ram and Sita, and someone like Osama bin Laden will never be acceptable,” Sarma said. He told the people that locals informed him there was also an “Osama” contesting from their area, to which he responded that even a small Osama should be defeated.

He reminded the crowd that Osama Shahab’s father, Mohammad Shahabuddin, was known for serious crimes, calling him someone who had created a record in committing murders. Sarma urged voters to send a strong message by defeating Shahab, saying Bihar must “sink all Osamas in the sea,” referring to the way Osama bin Laden was dealt with.

Sarma described Raghunathpur as a sacred place connected to Dr Rajendra Prasad, India’s first president, and said the fight there was not only about good governance but also about Bihar’s identity. He asserted that the state should stand by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, not by leaders like Lalu Prasad.

“The fight in Raghunathpur is not only for sushasan a good governance but for asmita (identity). No, Osama should ever dare to contest elections here again,” he told the rally.

Continuing his attack on Rahul Gandhi, Sarma demanded that Rahul Gandhi should be officially declared insane over his ‘10% of population control armed forces’ remarks. Talking to reporters, Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “Rahul Gandhi is mad. Don’t talk about him. He says whatever comes to his mind. If India has a conflict with Pakistan, then will you do the 10-20 percent division in the Army? A strong person who is capable of facing Pakistani forces should be in the Army. But Rahul Gandhi is taking about percentages in the Army. The country should officially declare Rahul Gandhi as a mad person.”

Speaking at an election campaign rally in Kutumba earlier this week, Rahul Gandhi alleged that the Indian Army is “under the control of 10% of the country’s population,” apparently referring to the dominance of upper castes in the armed forces. He alleged that 90% of the people come from extremely backward, backward, Dalit, and Adivasi communities, adding that the rest 10% control every institution, including the armed forces. Talking about the 10%, he had said, “All the wealth goes to them, all the jobs go to them. Look at the judiciary, they have control there, and even in the army.”

At another rally in Ramnagar, Sarma said that there was a “tsunami-like wave” in Bihar for the BJP, JD(U), and NDA allies. He expressed confidence that the alliance would return to power with full strength.

In his address, Sarma launched another fierce criticism of Rahul Gandhi, calling him “an enemy of the country.” He claimed that “the country’s enemies have planted Rahul Gandhi” to weaken India’s institutions. “Go and weaken the judiciary. Weaken the army. Create conflict among the public. This 10% reservation talk is treason. It’s an insult to all army personnel who sacrificed their lives,” he said.

Sarma questioned why Rahul Gandhi frequently traveled abroad and said the government should inquire into his visits. “We should think about why Rahul Gandhi goes abroad again and again. Our government should inquire about this,” he told the crowd.

He also took a dig at RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, saying that during his time as Bihar’s Deputy Chief Minister, he did not even deposit three rupees into women’s accounts, yet now speaks of providing benefits worth thirty thousand.

Choose between Ram or Babur, Laxman or Aurangzeb

Speaking at another rally in Bettiah’s Chanpatia area in support of BJP candidate Umakant Singh, Sarma drew strong contrasts between historical figures, saying voters had to choose between “Shri Ram or Babur, Laxman or Aurangzeb.” He claimed that Bihar’s people had already decided to stand with Shri Ram and Laxman, not with Babur and Aurangzeb.

According to him, a major political and cultural change came after Narendra Modi became Prime Minister in 2014, which encouraged the country to stand firmly with its roots. Sarma credited the NDA government in Bihar for bringing development, saying previous governments under Lalu Yadav had pushed the state into “jungle raj.”

He told the Chanpatia crowd, “Do not allow jungle raj to return. Vote for NDA with an absolute majority.” Sarma also repeated his firm stand on national security and said that illegal immigrants should never get voting rights.

He also recalled the closing of madrasas in Assam, saying officials had feared protests over that decision. “Let there be an uproar,” he said. “I will close the madrasas.” Through his speech, Sarma emphasized that only the NDA could safeguard India’s security and cultural identity.

“Bihar must stand united. We will be safe if we remain united,” he added.

Sarma targets Mamata Banerjee over NRC

Sarma also targeted West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee during his Bihar campaigns. Referring to the implementation of the National Register of Citizens (NRC), he said, “NRC happened in Assam; it did not happen in Bengal. If you do not want NRC, then say yes to illegal immigrants. They eat, drink, and live on the votes of Bangladeshis.”

By linking these regional issues, Sarma tried to send a larger political message that the NDA was the only alliance capable of ensuring national security, protecting cultural values, and maintaining good governance.

Throughout his Bihar tour, his speeches were marked by sharp words and religious references, reflecting the BJP’s election strategy to rally voters by invoking both faith and national pride.
