In a shocking case of domestic violence from Chembur in Mumbai, 25-year-old Arbaaz Syed, a history-sheeter with over 19 criminal cases against him, allegedly subjected his wife to prolonged physical and mental torture. The victim was forced to remain in the humiliating ‘Murga’ (rooster) position for nearly four hours, was attempted to be killed on railway tracks, threatened with death, and was later stabbed when she sought refuge at her parents’ home.

Arbaaz Syed is a history-sheeter with as many as 19 serious criminal cases registered against him at various police stations. According to the Mumbai Police, he got into a domestic dispute with his wife, and subjected her to brutal physical assault and confined her inside their house. Police said Arbaaz

The woman, visibly traumatised with stitches on her hand from the knife attack, gave details of the assaults she was facing while talking to the media. She said, “He comes in a drunken state. He remains drunk the whole day, and even if he is sober, he will still beat me. He will beat me all the time, without any reason. He just comes and starts beating me. He doesn’t let me sleep the whole night. He keeps a knife on my neck and misbehaves with me.”

She added that Arbaaz has been continuously assaulting her for the last 8-10 days, didn’t let her sleep a single night, and didn’t let her eat for 3 days. She further detailed extreme cruelty. On the day before the attack, Arbaaz took her to the railway tracks and forced her to lie down on the railway tracks, with her neck on a rail, in an attempt to get her beheaded by a train. However, when no train came even after 2 hours, he took her to his house.

He kept her confined in the house from 2 to 8.30, and forced her to remain in the Murga (Rooster) position for 4 hours. While she was in rooster position, he beat her with a belt, punched her and kicked her several times. She said that she can’t hear with her right ear due to the extreme assault, and her whole body is in pain.

He also threatened to kill his wife with a sword and warned that he would throw acid on her face. When asked why he is doing this, the wife said that he was assaulting for no reason. He also allegedly claimed that despite being a history sheeter, police do not arrest because he is an informer for the police.

After over 4 hours of torture, the victim somehow managed to escape during the ordeal and ran to her parents’ home for safety. However, Arbaaz tracked her down there as well. He created a scene at her parents’ residence and, in a fit of rage, attacked her with a knife, stabbing her.

Her family immediately informed the police after the attack. A police team arrived at the spot and detained Arbaaz Syed.

The woman said that even after the arrest, he threatened her and her family in front of the cops. He allegedly threatened to kill her, their child, and her parents after he comes out of jail. She said that she is very scared after this, and is not allowing her son to come out of the house. She added that his family has severed tied with him because of his violent nature.

She revealed that her son and other children have also been attacked with deadly weapons by him. The woman expressed deep fear for her life, stating that she does not feel safe because once he is released from custody, he will attack her again and kill her.

She said that the assaults started a week after the wedding, and she wants a divorce now. She said, “I want a divorce. I need a divorce as soon as possible. I don’t want to live with him.” She also mentioned her plan to write a letter to DCP Sameer Sheikh, requesting strict action as she fears Arbaaz will get bail soon.

Based on the complaint filed, the police filed a case against him at the RCF police station in Chembur under several sections of the BNS.
