Chipmaking giant Nvidia has unveiled a new generation of artificial intelligence-focused processors designed to bring advanced AI capabilities directly to personal computers, marking what industry experts believe could be a major shift in how users interact with technology.
Speaking at the Computex technology conference in Taipei on Monday, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang introduced the RTX Spark PC chip, a processor developed in partnership with Taiwan-based MediaTek. The chip is scheduled to begin shipping this fall and is designed to run AI-powered applications and digital agents locally on laptops and desktop computers, reducing dependence on cloud-based computing.
Huang described the launch as part of a broader collaboration with Microsoft aimed at reshaping the future of personal computing for the AI age.
“We are reinventing the PC,” Huang said, noting that the initiative is the result of nearly three years of joint development efforts between Nvidia and Microsoft.
The RTX Spark chip is built to support “agentic AI” systems—intelligent software capable of performing tasks, making decisions and assisting users with minimal human intervention. Analysts believe this could fundamentally transform traditional computers, which have long relied on application-centric workflows.
Neil Shah, co-founder of Counterpoint Research, compared the technology’s potential impact to some of the most disruptive innovations in modern tech.
“The RTX Spark could transform the traditional PC into a truly useful personal AI computer,” Shah said. “As private edge AI agents become commonplace, this technology could find its way into every household. It has the potential to become a defining moment for personal computing, much like the iPhone, ChatGPT or DeepSeek.”
Alongside the RTX Spark announcement, Huang also highlighted Nvidia’s growing ambitions in the central processing unit (CPU) market through its Vera CPU platform. Designed specifically to power AI agents and large-scale AI workloads, the processor has already attracted interest from major technology firms including OpenAI, Anthropic and SpaceX.
The emphasis on both RTX Spark and Vera underscores Nvidia’s expanding focus beyond graphics processors and data centre accelerators into broader computing infrastructure.
During an earnings call in May, Huang had estimated that Nvidia’s new CPU strategy could open access to a market worth approximately $200 billion. At Computex, he described the Vera platform as a significant future growth engine for the company.
“This is going to be our next major growth driver,” Huang said while outlining Nvidia’s latest AI roadmap and emphasizing Taiwan’s crucial role in the global technology supply chain.
The Nvidia chief also pushed back strongly against concerns that artificial intelligence could eliminate software engineering jobs. Instead, he argued that AI is increasing demand for technical talent by making developers more productive and enabling companies to build more software.
“People say AI will reduce software engineering jobs. That’s complete nonsense,” Huang said. “The number of software engineers is increasing because AI allows people to create more.”
Huang’s keynote comes at a time when Taiwan is emerging as a central hub in the global AI race. Born in Taiwan’s southern city of Tainan, Huang recently announced plans to invest roughly $150 billion annually in the island’s technology ecosystem, calling Taiwan the epicentre of the ongoing AI revolution.
The presentation also follows Huang’s recent participation in a high-profile business delegation that accompanied U.S. President Donald Trump during a visit to Beijing for meetings with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Computex 2026, one of the world’s largest technology exhibitions, runs from June 2 to June 5 and is expected to feature major announcements from several leading global technology companies as the race to dominate the AI sector intensifies.
