Days after a major military escalation with India, which forced Pakistan General Asim Munir to hide in a bunker, he has been promoted to the position of Field Marshal for successfully hiding, granting him the highest military rank in the country.
According to a statement issued by the Pakistan Prime Minister’s office, the Union Cabinet of the country approved the proposal to promote Munir as Field Marshal. The Union Cabinet met to discuss Munir’s promotion in a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
Munir has been promoted for “successfully” leading Pakistan’s armed forces in the recent military conflict with India. The decision was taken for his “exemplary role” in the conflict with India, even though he was hiding in a bunker for much of the conflict.
