She highlighted the observation of the Sringeri Math, which stated that Devvrat’s recitation was flawless and completed in the shortest known span. She praised his “dedication, discipline, focus and rigour of a high order”.
200 years later, Dandakrama Parayanam returns to Kashi
Devvrat performed the parayanam between 2 October and 30 November at the Vallabharam Shaligram Sangveda Vidyalaya in Varanasi. This is the first time in 200 years that such a performance has taken place in Kashi. The last known Dandakrama Parayanam was performed in Nashik by vedamurti Narayan Shastri Dev.
Devvrat was later ceremonially honoured by the Sringeri Sharada Peetham. Jagadguru Shankaracharya presented him with a gold ornament and a monetary honour of ₹1,11,116 after a celebratory procession from Rathyatra Crossing to Mahmoorganj.
Who is Devvrat Rekhe
Devvrat is a young Brahmin boy born into a modest family in Ahilyanagar, Maharashtra. He grew up under the guidance of his father, Mahesh Chandrakant Rekhe, a respected scholar. His father is also his first guru. Devvrat began reciting Vedic mantras at the age of five, and by 19 had memorised the entire Shukla Yajurveda Madhyandina Shakha.
He lives a disciplined life and stays away from mobile phones, social media and external distractions. His teachers say his focus and purity of practice reflect the finest traditions of India’s guru parampara.
The recognition from the Prime Minister has placed this young vedamurti’s achievement on the national stage and highlighted a rare revival of rigorous Vedic scholarship in contemporary India.
