Kanpur: Samajwadi Party leader Amir Zaidi arrested after a chase for raping a Hindu woman repeatedly and forcing her to convert to Islam

In a dramatic incident, the Kanpur police on Wednesday (4th February) chased down a Samajwadi Party leader named Amir Zaidi on a scooter in the Ghatampur police station area, as he was trying to escape the police. Zaidi is accused of sexually exploiting and forcing a Hindu girl to convert to Islam. Inspector Dinesh Singh Bisht chased him on a scooter for about 6 km before nabbing him.

As per reports, Zaidi is accused of raping a Hindu woman and forcing her to convert to Islam. A complaint was filed by the victim against four people, including Zaidi, after he tried get her wedding cancelled. A case was filed against Zaidi and the other three persons based on the victim’s complaint under the provisions relating to rape, criminal intimidation, and the relevant provisions of the POCSO Act, the IT Act, and the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act, 2021.

Zaidi lured the victim into a relationship after her father’s death

In her complaint, the victim reportedly stated that Zaidi met her at a time when she was a minor and was distressed after losing her father in 2013. She said that taking advantage of her vulnerability, Zaidi lured her into a relationship. He raped her and captured her obscene videos. He later raped her on multiple occasions by threatening to leak her obscene videos.

Subsequently, the victim’s family fixed her marriage for September 18, 2025. However, when Zaidi came to know about this, he, along with his associates, Shani alias Sunny Abbas, Rizvi, and Raja alias Akhtar Ansari, began threatening her and forcing her to convert to Islam. He also sent her obscene videos to her relatives, including her future in-laws, to defame her.

Fortunately, her in-laws did not call off the wedding despite Zaidi’s desperate efforts. On October 29, 2025, the engagement ceremony of the victim was peacefully organised. The wedding is scheduled for 14th February. After failing to get her wedding cancelled, Zaidi and his associates started threatening the groom and his sister.

Zaidi reportedly contacted the groom and his sister using fake IDs and obtained the groom’s contact number. He called the groom to a location near the Naubasta Galla Mandi cremation ground in Kanpur and threatened him. According to the victim, Zaidi told her that he would not allow her to get married to a Hindu man. Police have been looking for Zaidi since a case was filed against him.
