Starlink cannot be used in India: Elon Musk says SpaceX service not operational after concerns raised over Manipur

SpaceX owner Elon Musk has stated that Starlink satellite internet service cannot be used in India yet. Concerns were raised over militant groups connected to Myanmar trying to use Starlink satellite in border areas yesterday.

Musk has stated that Starlink satellite beams are turned off over India and currently the Starlink set up cannot be used within India’s territorial borders.

On December 17, there was a wave of concerns among Indian users of X after the Indian Army seized some Starlink equipment from fringe Kuki militant groups operating in the conflict areas of Manipur. Since Starlink isn’t operational in India yet, there were questions whether some terrorist groups and criminals might be using the tech in border areas.

It was not the first time Starlink equipment was found in Indian territory. In November, a Myanmarese vessel was seized in Indian waters near Andaman and Nicobar Islands while trying to smuggle over 6 tons of meth. Among other incriminating material, security forces found a SpaceX Starlink device with advanced GPS equipment were found on the vessel in possession of the drug smugglers.
