The government Switzerland has decided to discontinue its development programs in Bangladesh, along with Albania and Zambia. The decision, confirmed by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), came after the parliament allocated less funding for foreign aid.
As per reports, parliament has cut CHF110 million ($121 million) from the 2025 international cooperation budget and CHF321 million from the financial plan for 2026 to 2028. As a result, Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) has decided to end its bilateral development programmes with Albania, Bangladesh and Zambia by the end of 2028.
An official statement said that these reductions will affect bilateral, economic, and thematic cooperation, as well as multilateral organisations.
Switzerland’s decision comes after the United States, one of the world’s largest donors, recently suspended or reduced aid to several countries including Bangladesh.
