UP: Illegal mosque constructed on government land demolished in Bareilly following legal clearance

In a major action, the administration demolished an illegally constructed mosque with a bulldozer in Piparia village under the Bhojipura police station limits of Bareilly district of Uttar Pradesh, on Saturday (7th February). This action was taken following instructions from the Allahabad High Court.

According to the media reports, “The land on which the mosque is constructed was listed in revenue records as Category 5 government wasteland.” However, its construction was illegal because it was constructed on illegally occupied land. SDM Sadar Pramod Kumar stated that a legal dispute had been ongoing over this land since 2008.

The Tehsildar Court had already declared the construction illegal and passed an eviction order. The case then reached the civil court, where the parties received no relief, and the case was dismissed. After all court hurdles were cleared, the administration decided to take action.

On Saturday afternoon (7th February), the structure, which spanned nearly 300 yards, was demolished within one hour by two bulldozers. A heavy police force and PAC personnel were deployed at the site to ensure law and order. It was reported that tight security arrangements were made on the spot to ensure that the event was peaceful.
