Uttar Pradesh: Mohammad Umar arrested in Pilibhit for kidnapping and raping a 9-year-old girl for two days

On Tuesday, 16th June, the Pilibhit police in Uttar Pradesh arrested a 65-year-old Muslim man for abducting and repeatedly raping a nine-year-old girl over two days. The horrific incident took place in a village under the Sungadhi police station area. Following intense questioning, the police are now processing the accused to send him to jail.

The suspect, identified as Mohammad Umar, was caught late Tuesday night on the outskirts of the village while attempting to flee the district. The arrest came after angry residents surrounded the police station demanding immediate action. The police have registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and other severe sections of the law.

The tragedy began on Sunday when the nine-year-old victim, a Class 4 student, went to a nearby market to buy slippers. While her father was busy at his shop, Umar approached the child, lured her with false promises, and took her to his home, which is located just about seven kilometres away from the district headquarters. When the father checked the shop a little later, his daughter was nowhere to be found. Assuming she had walked back home, he finished his work, but discovered she was missing upon his return. The father later realised his daughter was missing when she didn’t return home. The family searched for her for two days but found no trace.

Police say Umar fed the child narcotics mixed in food and raped her repeatedly over two days. The girl was kept as a captive in his house until the neighbour recorded the crime.

How the crime was uncovered

The gruesome incident came to light after a neighbour secretly filmed Umar raping the child, and he immediately sent the video clip to the girl’s family. Horrified by the footage, the relatives rushed to Umar’s house, where they found the young girl in a severely traumatised state. Umar had already fled the scene before they arrived.

According to the media reports, the victim is the youngest of four siblings. Her family lives a modest life, and they knew Umar because he used to keep goats on a shared-profit basis with them. Umar lives completely alone in the village and does not have a regular job. His wife passed away from an illness years ago; one of his sons died just a month ago, while his other son works in the city and his daughter is married.

Police confirmed the arrest and promised a fast-track trial for strict punishment

Pilibhit District Superintendent of Police Sukirti Madhav Mishra confirmed the arrest and said, “We have received an obscene video of the girl being raped. A case has been registered under the POCSO Act and other serious sections, and the accused has been arrested. The girl is undergoing medical examination. We will ensure she gets justice through a fast-track court and will try to give the accused the strictest punishment possible.”

Police say the case will be prioritised, and the charge sheet will be filed soon.
