Killed after being invited for ‘Bakrid Party’
According to the complaint filed by Surya’s brother, Yash Chauhan, Surya was walking with his friends, Vicky and Ayush, near their house when his Muslim friend, Asad, called him and asked him to come to Gali No. 2 for Bakrid celebrations. Surya and his friends went towards the spot where Asad was standing, Nawab, Farhan, Atif, and Sariq, near a banana warehouse.
Witnesses told police that before the attack, the group asked Surya, “Have you ever seen a goat being slaughtered?” When he refused to go with them, an argument broke out. Soon after, Surya was attacked with a knife.
Surya ran 200 metres despite serious injuries
Family members said Surya was first stabbed in the stomach. Even with the knife lodged in his body, he managed to run nearly 200 metres in an attempt to save himself. The attackers chased him, knocked him down, pulled out the knife and stabbed him several more times before fleeing.
Hearing the commotion, Surya’s mother and brother rushed to the spot and found him critically injured. He was first taken to a nearby hospital and later shifted to Fortis Hospital in Sector 62, Noida. He died during treatment on the afternoon of 29th May.
Police action and tension in the area
Police initially registered a case of attempted murder based on the family’s complaint. After Surya’s death, the case was converted into a murder. ACP Indirapuram Abhishek Srivastava said that some suspects have been detained and questioned, while the main accused, Asad, is still absconding.
Following the incident, members of several Hindu organisations reached the area and the Khoda police station, demanding the immediate arrest of all accused and action against them. To prevent any disturbance, a heavy police deployment has been made in the locality. Officials said a detailed investigation is underway and strict action will be taken against those found responsible.
