Uttarakhand marks 25th Statehood Day: PM Modi to visit Dehradun, launch development projects worth ₹8000 crore

Uttarakhand is celebrating its 25th Statehood Day on Sunday (9th November), marking the milestone since its formation in 2000. On this special occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his heartfelt greetings to the people of the state and praised their contribution to the progress and prosperity of the region.

In a post on X, PM Modi said, “On the 25th anniversary of the establishment of Uttarakhand, I extend my heartfelt best wishes to all my brothers and sisters of the state. Nestled in the lap of nature, our divine land is today gaining a new pace of progress in every field, along with tourism. On this special occasion of the state, I pray for the happiness and prosperity, good fortune, and excellent health of the humble, hardworking, and divine-like people here.”

The Prime Minister is visiting Dehradun to participate in the Silver Jubilee celebration of Uttarakhand’s formation. He will release a postal stamp to commemorate the occasion and address the gathering. PM Modi will also inaugurate and lay the foundation stones for multiple developmental projects worth more than ₹8,140 crores that will give a boost to the growth of the state in every sector.

Out of these, projects worth around ₹930 crore will be inaugurated, while new projects worth ₹7,210 crore will have their foundation stones laid. These projects cover key areas such as drinking water, irrigation, technical education, energy, urban development, sports, and skill development.

The Prime Minister will also release a financial support amount of ₹62 crore to more than 28,000 farmers directly into their bank accounts under the PM Fasal Bima Yojana.

Among the major projects to be inaugurated are the Dehradun water supply coverage project for 23 zones under the AMRUT scheme, an electrical substation in Pithoragarh district, solar power plants in government buildings, and an AstroTurf Hockey Ground at Haldwani Stadium in Nainital.

PM Modi will also lay the foundation stones for two important hydro-sector projects, the Song Dam Drinking Water Project, which will supply 150 million litres per day of drinking water to Dehradun, and the Jamarani Dam Multipurpose Project in Nainital, which will provide drinking water, irrigation support, and electricity generation. The foundation stone will also be laid, including electrical substations, the establishment of Women’s Sports College in Champawat,  state-of-the-art dairy plant in Nainital, among others.

Uttarakhand Foundation Day, or Uttarakhand Diwas, is celebrated every year on 9th November to mark the creation of the state in 2000. Carved out of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand became India’s 27th state with the goal of giving the hilly regions a separate identity and developmental focus. Initially named Uttaranchal, the state was officially renamed Uttarakhand in 2007.
